SACK-HOLDER SEEGXFGATEON iorming' part Ot' Letters Patent No. 676,934, dated J une 25, 190'1.
Application filed March 22, 1900. Serial No. 9,746. (Ne model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may cancers/b:
Be it known that I, OTTO BUGKEL, residing at Norfolk, in the county ofMadison and State of Nebraska, have invented certain usefulplfmprovementsin Sack-Holders; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This specification has relation to anew and novel improvement in sack-holders.
The object of my invention is to provide a light, portable, and adjustable holder adapted'to removably receive the mouth or open end of a suitable bag or sack.
ln the accompanying drawings have shown in Figure l a side elevation, with portions removed, of an adjustable sack-holder embodying my invention, while Fig. 2 shows a top view of my improved bag and sack holder.
My invention embodies, essentially, an adjustable frame comprising two members slidably connected. One ofthe members (marked by the reference-number 4t) is xed and provided with a bracket 2, as disclosed in Fig. l, which bracket is adapted to be adjustably and removably connected to an ear 3, forming` part of a suitable standard or supporter. Below, this fixed upper member Il is provided with a serrated lower edge forming the teeth 5. Depending and adj ustably secured to and below this fixed member 4 is a sliding member 6, which member is held by means of the forward loops l0, secured to the free ends ot` the upper member Il, and the loops 7, secured to the ends of this lower member and encompassing the upper member 4, as is clearly shown in Fig. l. These two members (marked Il and 6, respectively) are both three-sided and when combined form a four-sided frame adapted 'to receive the open end of a sack, bag, or pouch. The downwardly-extending loops lO are secured by suitable screws or rivets 1l. This upper memberis further provided with the rearwardly-extending pins l2, upon which the sack is hooked.
The lower member 6 is provided with the forwardly-entending pins l2, as is shown.
Upon the rear this lower member at each end is provided with an upward extension 14, forming a pawl which is adapted to work and lock into the lower notched or serrated edge 5 of the upper member. This lower member is secured to the loops 7, which extend upwardly and encompass the upper member 4, as is shown in the drawings. This lower member is further provided with two pendent forwardly-curved ears 9, which, if desired, may form a continuation of the loop 7, as is shown in the drawings, which loop is secured by means of suitable screws or rivets 8.
The operation of holding and supporting a sack, bag, or mail-pouch, for instance, would be to carry the upper open end over the rear pins l2, so that said pins would support the sack, then carry the forward edge of the sack over the pins l2, when the lower siidable frame 6 would be drawn out until the lower mem ber found a seating within the lower serrated edge of the upper member, and so removably separate the sack, which could then be readily filled.
Should it become necessary to lill a small sackthat is, one having an opening smaller .than the smallest circumference of the mema bers 4 and G-the bag would be placed upon the rear pins l2, to be there supported, while the forward edge of the bag, sack, or pouch would be hung over the depending ears 9, and so support the receptacle, though in this instance the forward portion of the lower member 6 would project outward.
My im proved sack-holder is nicely adapted to be used in railway-cars, post-offices, and the like to support mail-pouches, as well as being adapted to be used in filling grain-'bags and the like.
The members comprising my adjustable sack-hold er may be made of any suitable size, shape, or material and may be provided with a special standard or simply with a loop 3, adapted to be secured to a suitable wall or other support.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is"
In a sack-holder of the character described, the combination with a three-sided fined mem- .ber provided with a suitable supportingbraoket, sack-holding pins extending from said member, said member below being provided upon opposite sides With serrated edges, and a supporting-loop fixed to eaeh forward end of said fixed member, of a sliding member three-sided, provided with an upwardlyextending fixed pawl at each end, adapted to engage said lower serrated edges, said movable member being supported by said for- Ward loops, said sliding member further being provided at its ends with encompassing loops adapted to engage the sides of said fixed member, outwardly-extending sack-supporting pins secured to the forward edge of said movable member, and downwardlyextending ears secured to the ends of said movable member.
