PAPER nonnnn AND FILLER. I
No. s61,0o7.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1907. p 1
Application filed January 31,1907. serial N0- 355,071.
Be it known that I, WIIiLIAM'W. WILHELM, acitizen of the United States, residing at Charlotte, in the county of Mechlenburg and State ofJNorth Carolina, have invented a new and useful Paper Holder and Filler, of
This invention relates to paper bag holders and fillers; the object of the invention being to facilitate the filling of paper sacks. '1
A further object of the invention is to provide a sack supporting and filling device, which shall be simple in of stores where itwill afford convenient means for, supporting paper sacks while material is being placed therein.
With these and other ends in view, which'will readily appear'as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved eons'truction and novel arrangement and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims. In the accompanying drawings has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention; it being, however, understood thatno limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications Within inventionmay be made, when desired. I o
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the principles of the invention, said device being shown in receiving Corresponding parts in the several figures are indicated throughoutby similar characters of reference.
The improved device, its several forms, includes a funnel or hopper l, which is supported at a suitable elee justably, as by means of bolts 4 operating through the slots 5 and provided with thumb nuts 6 whereby the legs 2 and the extension members 3 may be clamped together. The eictension members 3 have been shownas provided with feet 7 iapertured for the reception of fastening means, such as screws 8 whereby they may be secured in position upon a table or counter, or other suitable The funnel or hopper 1 consists of a beveled ring of suitable dimensions to the lower edge of which there are witnesses.
spring means are provided whereby the lower endsor free extremities of the wings or leaves 9, 9 will bef o1 ced-- I in the direction of each other; these spring means may consist of-flat leaf springs, shown at 1O, 10 in Figs; land 2, said springs being secured upon the outer side of the tunnel or hopper 1 with their free ends bearing exteriorly against the wings or leads 9; or, as shown in Fig; 4, a single coiled spring may be mounted upon the leaves 9, 9 in such a manner as to encircle all of the leaves, the free endsof which are thereby actuated in the proper direction. p r v The upper edges of the wings 9, 9 are provided with flaring extremities 12 which, when the lower ends of I the leaves are forced'outward against the tension of the springs, will limit the movement of said leaves by abutting exteriorly upon the funnel or hopper.
In the operation of this device, the mouth of the sack that is to be filled is adjusted upon the cone formed by the wings or leaves 9, 9, and the bottom of the sack will be permitted to rest upon the table or counter upon which the deviceis supported; the sack will thus be held in position while the material with which it is to be filled is poured into the funnel or hopper 1; theweight ble legs or supporting members, a single device may be used for the purpose of'filling bags of various sizes, and
.the range of utility of the device is accordingly increased.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed 1. Ina device of the class described, a hopper, wings hlngedly connected with the hopper and. having flaring seen, 'is simple in i for large and small bags; but, by the use of the extensiextremities adapted to bear against the hopper to limit the movement of the wings,'and spring wings toward each other.
2. In a device of.the class described, a hopper, means for adjustablysupporting the hopper at .various elevations,
a plurality of wings hingedly connected vwith'the hopper and coiiperating to forms closure said wings being pr0 yided with flaring portions whereby their movement will be limited by contactwith the body of the hopper, and spring means for forcing the free ends of the wings toward each other.
In testimonythat I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two WILLIAM W. WILHELM.
