UNITED STATES' PATENT OFFICE.
'GEORGE GALSTER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
LAMP-G U-ARD.
srn'crricm oivrqrming part ofLetters Patent No. 6'75,724, dated June 4, 1901.
' Application filed March 12, 1901. Serial ;N o. 50,'799- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it-known that I, GEORGE GALSTER,acitizen of the United States, residing at De-v troit, in the county off Wayne and .State of- Michigan, have invented certain new and'u seful Improvements in-Lamp-Guards, ofwhich the followiugis a specification, reference being had therein. to the, accompanying drawlugs. r p
The invention relates'to lamp-guards spe- 'cially designed for protectingincandescent It is one object of the invention to obtain a; construction in which the parts maybe more consequently diminished. v
It is a further object of the invention to form an effective guard forthel'amp; and'the invention therefore'con'sists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as
3 hereinafter described and claimed.
.In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the lamp-guard. I "ig.- '2 -is a bottom plan view thereof. Fig.3 isalongitudinal sec tion on linear; @Fig. 2 Fig. 4: is a horizontal section on line yy, Fig. 3.
The invention relates ]moreparticularly to. the construction ofthe body portion of the guard, not to the means employed'for securin g the guard. to the lamp-socket,and although the drawings show the guard provided with securing means thisis not essential to the invention.
As shown, A designates the upper or clamping portion of the guard, comprising the arms a b, hinged at their lower ends to the ring 0 and at their upper ends provided with neckloops (1 and d for engaging the lamp-socket. B represents the body portion of the guard, which forms the subject-matter of the present invention and is constructed as follows: 6 is a wire ring or annulus secured in any suitable way to the portion A of the guard. As shown it is hinged by means of thelinks 5 f and is secured on the opposite side by the h ij is are four wire loops provided attheir ends with eyes Z, connected to the annulus e. These loops depend from said annulus and are arranged in pairs, which cross each other atythe points m n 0 9,.s0 as to form a quadrangle. The upper ends of the loop of each pair are preferably arranged adjacent to each other, while the loops lie in divergent planes,
having their line of intersection substantially in the plane'of the annulus c, as shown in ,Fig. 3. To form the bottom portion of the guard, as well as to secure the loops in posi tion, the opposite corners of the quadrangle are connected by diagonal bars q and 4", re-
"spectively connecting the angles m n and 0 1).
complete the bulbular form of the guard. easily assembled and the cost of manufacture 'Inthe manufacture of the guard the various parts are first formed with their eyes open, so.
that they may be engaged with each other.
The, workman then assembles the parts by hand and clenches the eyes.
It will be understood that the cost of manu-.
facture isc'hiefly the labor of assembling the parts and that the greater the number of jclench'e's to be made the more time will be consumed; With my construction the numberof clenches to be made is comparatively small, and at the same time the parts are so arranged as to form an effective guard and a structure which will permanently retain its shape.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. In a'lamp-guard, a body portion comprising two pair of loops crossing each other to form a quadrangle, and a brace extending.
diagonally across said quadrangle connected at its opposite ends to the crossing loops and securing the latter in position.
" 2. In a lamp-guard, a body portion comprising two pair of loops crossing each other prising an annulus, two pair of loops crossing I quadrangle and downwardly-curved diagonal each other to form a quadrangle the ends of 1 cross-bars secured at their ends respectively each pair being adjacent and secured to said to the crossing portions of said loops. annulus and a brace extending diagonally In testimony whereof I afiix my signature across said quadrangle its opposite ends eonin presence of two Witnesses.
neeting to and securing in position said cross- GEORGE GALSTER ing loops.
5. In a lamp-guard, an annulus, two pair \Vitnesses: of loops secured to and depending from said M. B. ODOGHERTY, 1o annulus and crossing each other to form a H. 0. SMITH.
