UNITED STATES PATENT BENSO G. DEOVICH, O F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA SAFETY-HOLDER FOR PAPER MONEY, 800.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 673,574, dated May 7, 1901. Application filed October 3, 1900. Serial No. 31,843. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENSO G. DEOVICH, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at No. 2117 Columbia avenue, in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Holders for Paper Money, &c., whereof the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
In said drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the device, indicating in dotted lines the position of a bank-note or other object which it is desired to hold therein. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central section through the device. Fig. 3 is a transverse section showing the bank-note or similarobject Wrapped around the holder.
The object of my invention comprises means whereby paper money or similar pliable objects may be securely clamped to a rigid member of such size and shape as to be conveniently carried in the pocket, the clamping device being of such character as not to cut or mar the objects wrapped therearound and to permit the ready removal of one of a group of objects held thereby without disturbance to the rest, the device being further provided with a safety attachment forsecuring the holder, with its contents, to the person of the wearer.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a flat tubular back piece conveniently formed of sheet metal and having dimensions such as to permit it to be readily carried in an ordinary pocket. Said back piece has at each end laterally-projecting fiat lugs a a, respectively, upon which are pivotally mounted the holding-clips B B. Said clips are respectively attached to transverse shafts b 1), whose reduced ends form the pivots, and are further provided with oblong cam-pieces O G, secured tosaid shafts and adapted to engage with springs D D, which may conveniently be formed integrally with the back piece, as shown. Said cam-pieces are of such configuration and so cooperate with said springs as to retain the clips in a closed position, and preferably in a completely open one also, the open position of the clip being indicated at B and the closed one at B. When closed the clips bear against the back piece with a pressure corresponding to the strength of the springs.
At one end of the back piece I provide a stud E, to which is attached a flexible securing device F, having an eye f, adapted to engage with a button.
The bank-note or other object intended to be held is indicated by the dotted lines at G, and one or more such objects may be inserted in and secured to the holder by opening the two clips, laying the object upon the back piece, and then closing down the clips upon it. When thus held the bank-note or other object may be wrapped around the holder, as indicated in Fig. 3, and then inserted in the pocket, the chain being secured by means of its eye to any convenient button. Owing to the tubular formation of the back piece A it presents no sharp edges to cut or wear the banknotes or papers wrapped thereupon, and it is also rendered lighter in weight than would be a solid piece of like external contour. When it is desired to withdraw one of the notes, they are unwrapped and any one of the number may be slipped from beneath the grasp of the clips without opening the latter or disturbing the other notes.
Having thus described my invention, I claim As an improved article of manufacture, a pocket safety-holder consisting of a flattened tubular back piece having closed longitudinal sides and provided at the ends of one wide side with spring-tongues and ears at opposite sides of the tongues, clips pivoted between the ears to swing toward each other down upon said wide side and provided at their outer hinged ends with lugs or cams engaging the spring-tongues, and a chain or flexible retaining device secured to one end of the back piece and provided at its free end with means for securing it to a garment; substantially as described.
BENSO e. DEOV-IOH.
