IMPROVEMENT IN PLOUGH-BEAMS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM GILMAN, of Ottawa, in the county of La Salle,.in the State-of Illinois, have invented a. new and improved Hollow Wrought-Iron Plough-Beam; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I

The nature of my invention consists in the employment for the beam of a plough of a hollow. and partly tapering wrought-iron pipe, which'forms at the same time the-standard for attaching-the'plough. This improvement is introduced with a. view of' securing greater strength with less Weight and material than the ordinary wrought-iron beamplough.

I form a pipe, A, of wrought iron, edge-welded in the same manner as gas pipe is usually made. From the middle'to the end, which is'to be the forward end of the plough-beam, this pipe is reduced to a gradual taper, in orderi-to do away with unnecessary weight, as there is no great strain on that part of the beam. lthen hand this wrought-iron pipe A to the shape shownin the'drawing in such a manner that the thick end of the pipe A will form the standard to which the plough is attached. The handles are also attached to the same end of the pipe A in the same manner as in the ordinary wrought-iron beam plough.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The employment for plough-beams of a hollow and tapering wrought-iron pipe, substantially as described in the foregoing specification.
