TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, NELSON PBAMEB, of thecify of Troy, in the county of Rensselaenand State of New York, have invented a new and improved Grate," for use in cylindrical-shaped stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being hereby had to the accomnying drawings which form and make a part of this specification.
Like letters represent and refer to like or corresponding parts.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my said grate, showing it as it would appear when placed in a proper position in relation to the otherparts of a stove.
Figure 2 is alsoa perspective, showing the under side of my said grate, also showing the hook O by which the grate is connected to and with the horizontal support D, as fully hereinafter described and set forth.
Figure 3 is a view showing the horizontal bar or support D upon which the grate A-rests, also showing the hooh'G inserted into the recess E as it would appear when the said grate is in use, in the manner and for the purposes substantially as fully hereinafter described and set forth. 7
Figure 4 is another view of the said hdrizontal bar or support D, and more clearly showing therecess into which the said hook C is inserted, substantially as hereinafter described and set forth.
The nature-of my said invention and improvements consists in so constructing the-said horizontal bar or support C that the same may be made stationary, and still operate and support the'said grate A, in the manner substantially as fully hereinafter described and set forth.
It also consists in constructing the hook 0 attached to the grate A, and the recess E in the support D, in
such manner that the grate A may be dumped without the necessity of moving the horizontal bar or support D, in the manner and for the purposes substantially as hereinafter described and set forth.
To enable .others skilled in the art to which my invention v relates to make and use the same, I will here' proceed to describe the construction and operation thereof,'which is as follows, to wit:
My improved grate is designed expressly for cylindrical-shaped stoves, and is made in the usual shape of. grates heretofore in use. The cross-bar's F maybe of any shape, size, and configuration desired. 13 is the.
handle, at the end of which is attached the device by which the grate A is vibrated and dumped, as hereinafter described and set forth. C is the hook or rectangular-shaped piece of metal which is securely fastened, at one end, to the centre of the said grate A, and is for the purpose of holding the grate A in its proper position on 1 the horizontal bar or support D, and also to support the said grate A when the same has been dumped by means of the handle 3, as fully hereinafter described and set forth. D is the horizontal bar or support, which is securely fastened at both ends in its properplace at the bottom of tho fire-chamber. In the centre of said support Dis a suitably constructed recess, E, with one side of the same considerably lower than the other, so as to allow the dumping of the grate A, as fully hereinafter described andset forth. The said grate A is attached to the horizontal bar or support D, by means of thehook Cwhich passes through the recess E, and holds the grate in a horizontal position on the said support D. The grate A is vibrated by means ofany device deemed best, which is attached to the handle B. When it is desired to dump my said grate for any required purpose it is done in the ordinary manner. One side of the recess E being lowerthan the other, the grate A will turn until the angle of the book 0 presses against the rim of the recess E; the grate A will thus be firmly held suspended at any position desired, which can be regulated by the shape of the recess E. By this meausI am enabled to dump a grate without moving the horizontal bar or support D upon which the same rests, thereby saving a great deal of unnecessary mechanism, and making a grate which is not as liable to get out of order as any heretofore made. The various parts of my said improved grate may be made of cast-iron or other metal, and of any size, shape, or strength required.
Having thusdescribed the nature of my said invention and improvements, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination of a cylindrical or other shaped grate A with a stationary horizontal bar or support D, in the manner and for the purposes substantially as hereinbefore fully described and set forth.
2. The employment of the hook C, in combination with the recess E, by means of which the grate is operated, in the manner and for the purposes substantially as hereinbefore described and set forth.
In testimony whereof I have, on this 14th day of April, A. D. 1866, hereunto set my hand.
NELSON PRAMER.
