Letters Patent No. 66,812, elated JwZ-y 16, 1867.
IMPROVED SGRUBBING-BRUSH.
TO ALL WHOM-IT MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that I, A. DOOLITTLE, of Hamden, in the county of New Haven, and in the State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and usetul Improvements in scrubbing-Brushes.; and do hereby declare that the following is a full., clear, and exact description thereof', reference 'being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A. represents a scrubbing-brush, which is made in any ofthe known and ,usual ways. Secured to the back of this brush are two metallic boxes, B B, which are raised at their centres and provided with the slots :v x. These boxes are placed four or five inches apart, with their slots facing each other.l .C` represents the handle of the brush, which is provided at one end with two spring metallic prongs, D D. The ends of these prongs are bent outwards. The ends are wider apart than the boxes are, and are made so that they will enter the slots z x. The prongs must be sprung together somewhat in order to secure them in the slots, and the spring in the metal of Awhich they are made retains them in position. Two slots are formed, so that the handle can be used upon either side of the brush. This brush can` be used while the operator is in a standing position, or, the handle Vbeing removed, may be used as the ordinary brush is, by hand.
