lVILLIAM NELSON BEYER, OF ROYERSFORD, PENNSYLVANIA.
lRONlNG-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 667,668, dated February 12, 1901.
Application filed March 24, 1900. Serial No. 10,052. (No model.)
I Pivoted on the leg-sections 1 and adapted to T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM NELSON -BEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Royersford, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to ironing-tables, and especially to those adapted to be folded into a compact parcel and laid away when not in use, and has for its object to provide a table that may be readily set up when needed and will then be rigid and firm and can as easily be taken down and folded up into a compact securely-fastened package to put away. This object I accomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter more fully described in detail, and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like figures indicate like parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side view of my invention in an operative position. Fig. 2 is a plan view with top removed. Fig. 3 is a side view of device folded, top removed. Fig. 4 is a crosssection on line a; 00 of Fig. 1.
My invention consists of the leg-sections 1., provided on the inside at the top with the cross-pieces 2 and at a short distance from the bottom with similar cross-pieces 3. The ironing-board i is provided on its under side with cleats 5, adapted to engage the outsides of the cross-pieces 2 when the board dis placed in position.
6 is a cross-bar hinged at the bottom in the center and provided with a lug 6 and a recess 6, said recess adapted to receive said lug and hold the two parts of the crossbar together when the table is folded. Said cross-bar has its ends hinged to the cross-pieces 3 and is provided on its top at the center with ahook and a screw or pin or other fastening device. Pivoted to the cross-bar 6 on opposite sides, one near each end, are braces '7, provided at their free ends with perforations 8, adapted when the table is set up to receive hooks 9, fixed in the leg-sections l, and when the table is being folded to be supported by pins 9, fixed on the opposite sides of the cross-bar 6.
press said braces 7 onto said hooks 9 and hold them there are levers 10 with cam-shaped heads. A hook 11 is pivoted on one le -section 1 and an eye 12 is fixed on the other, said hook 11 and eye 12 being adapted to fasten said leg-sections 1 together when folded. Any other suitable fastening may be used.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The book 11 being detached from the eye 12 the leg-sections 1 are moved apart until the cross-bar 6 is fully extended, when the fastening on said cross-bar 6 at the center is secured. The braces 7 are raised and the perforated ends thereof placed on the books 9, when the levers 10 are pressed firmly against the braces 7. The top or ironing-board I is now placed on the leg-sections 1, the cleats5 engaging the cross-pieces 2. The table is now ready for use. By reversing the operation the same may be folded and laid away.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An ironing-table comprising a top, hinged end leg-sections each having a hook and a clamping-lever, a central hinged bar provided on its sides with pins, and pivoted braces having perforated ends, said braces adapted to be supported on said pins when the table is folded, and the perforated ends to engage and be secured on said hooks by the clamping-levers when the table is extended, substantially as shown and described.
2. An ironing-table comprising a top, hinged end leg-sections having hooks, a central hinged bar provided with pins, braces on opposite sides of the bar adapted to be supported by said pins, and a recess in, and a lug on, the bottom of said bar, said lug being adapted to engage said recess when the table is in a folded position, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM NELSON BEYER.
