SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 664,452, dated December 25, 1900. Application filed September 12, 1900. serial No. 29,748. (No model.)
To atZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. ALMQUIST, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of San Francisco, in the gripping the work between the jaws.
The following description explains at length the value of my said invention and the manner in which the same is constructed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a view in perspective of my improved clamp. Fig. 2 is a top plan. Fig. 3 is an elevation taken from one end.
A indicates a stationary jaw, B a movable jaw, and O 0 indicate screws, with leverhandles O for turning them. At the ends of the stationary jaw arched or U shaped yokes D,standingat right angles to the jaw,furnish a support at each end of the clamp for the movable jaw, which is attached to the under side of the yokes at each end by a screw-stud (1 taking through a slot 6 in the movable jaw. On these studs the last-named jaw has limited movement toward or away from the Sta-- proximately so, with the movable'jaw, but at a distance in front of it, so as to leave space for inserting and setting between the outer face of the movable jaw and the aforesaid arms a thick board or plank, such as would serve as a support for the clamp during use. In the ends of the arms are threaded sockets for the screws, which are thus held by the arms at right angles to the outer face of the movable jaw.
The stationary jaws, with the yokes and arms for the clamping-screws,are readily cast or forged in one piece. The movable jaw is usually made of wood. As thus constructed the work of securing the clamp on a support and of setting the jaws together to grip the saw is done by the single operation of setting up the screws, which, in combination with the yokes, are made to perform the double offiee of fastening the clamp in place and of pressing the jaws together.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A saw-clamp comprising a movable jaw, a stationary jaw, yokes at the ends of the stationary jaw, arms extending therefrom outside of and parallel with the movable jaw and clamping-screws in said arms fitted in screwthreaded bearings to work at right angles to the plane of the movable jaw, the said arms and clam ping-screws being adapted to secure the clamp on a fixed support and to press the jaws together on the article to be held.
