Be it known that l, CHRISTIAN A. HERR, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Osborn, in the county of Greene and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coin-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the igures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in coin-holders.
The object of the invention is to provide a coin-holder consisting of an open metallic frame between which the coin is secured and an inclosure of Manila paper or other suitable material, combining both metal and paper in a single receptacle, the function of the paper being to conceal the coin and the function of the frame being to hold the coin in position and to relieve the paper of the Weight or pressure of the coin.
In a detail description of my invention reference is made to the accompanyingdrawings, of which- Figure l is a plan viewof a blank from which the coin-holder is constructed.l Fig. 2 is an elevation of the constructed coin-holder before it has been appliedto use. Fig. 3 is an elevation of a coin-holder complete with coin therein, part of said holder being broken away to exhibit the coin therein. Fig. 4 is an end view of the holder, showing the ends of the bars turned inwardly.
In carrying the idea of my invention into practical use I provide a blank l, of Manila paper of suitable Weight. This blank might be made of any suitable fabric; but I find Manila paper of suitable thickness to be the most desirable. I next place a series of metallic bars 2, preferably constructed of tin. These bars are placed in position across the blank l and are secured thereto by glue. The bars 2, as shown in Fig. l, are inclosed by 'a second blank of paper being placed thereon, which completely incloses all portions of said bars except the projecting ends 3. The bars are placed equal distances apart, so that when the blank is rolled in cylindrical form, as shown in Fig. 2, the said bars will occupy equal positions on the four opposite sides of the cylinder. The ends 3 of said bars, that project beyond the horizontal edges of the blank, are, bent inwardly at right angles and form inclosures for the ends of the cylinder or tube, as shown in Fig. 3. The bars at one end of the cylinder are first turned inwardly to form a bottom to the receptacle. A given number of coin 4 is then placed in the cylinder to till it up to the edge of the wall. The bars at the opposite end of the cylinder are then bent over to inclose said cylinder and to form the top inclosure for theV coin. As before stated, the coin when thus packed within the cylinder is supported by the metallic bars, the walls of the cylinder being relieved of the pressure or weight of said coin. Owing to this construction the paper from which the wall of the cylinder is formed Willnot tear or become weakened in the handling of the coin holder.
Having described my invention, I claim- A coin-holder, the same being formed of Atwo blanks with a plurality of rigid metallic bars inclosed between said blanks uniform distances apart, the ends of said bars projecting beyond the edges of the blanks, and the blanks being formed into cylindrical shape with the portions of the metallic bars between the projecting ends thereof wholly inclosed by said blanks, the projecting ends of said metallic bars adapted to be bent inwardly to form inclosures f'or the ends of said cylinder, substantially as shown and for the purposes specified.
