TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: y
Be itknown that I, NORMAN KING, of Etna, Allegheny county,.Iennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Throttle-Valve Lever; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, whichwill enable others skilled in the art te make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to anew and improved method of operating the throttle-valve of a steam engine; and it consists in the arrangement of two levers which have arms attached, and which have their fulera upon a stationary standard, and which operate in such a manner that the valve is moved with the greatest ease. and can be set or locked in any desired position, as I will new proceed to describe. l
The drawing represents a side elevation of the arrangement, showing the parts in their Yproper places.
A isa stationary standard, which is attached to the boiler or re-box, as may be moist convenient, as seen in the drawing. B is a lever having aslotted arm, C, attached to it, which arm stands at an angle of about fortyve degrees with the lever. The slot is marked D. The lever B has its fulcrum at E in the standard A. F is a lever also having anv arm attached to its lower end, marked G, which arm stands at a right angle with the lever. -The fulerum of this lever is at I-I. A portion of the throttle-valve rod is seen at a in red. On the top end of the lever F there is a roll which works in the slot D, andqt is secured in its place by a pin wliichpasses through the lever, with a thumb-screw and washer on its end, as seen at d e. It will he seerrthat by operating the lever B the roll on the end of the lever F will traverse the slot D, which will give the arm G a vertical motion which will operate the throttle-valve as desired. By the thumb-.screw d the two levers can be fastened together so that the valve can he kept immovable when desired,
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The standard A, and the levers B and F, with their arms Gand G, constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as shown and described, for the purpose set forth. NORMAN KING.
