Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. LANDBECK, of the city of Rochester, in the county of Monroe, and State oi' New York, l1ave invented ai new' and useful Improvement on a Wrench, for which said wrench I received Letters Patent dated o n the twenty-fourth day of April in the yea-r of our Lordvone thousand eight hundred and sixty-six; and I do hereby declare that the followingtis a full, clear, and'exaet description of the construe tion und operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specifica, tion, in whichv Y Figure 1 is a perspective view of my wrench showing my improvement thereon.

The object of my improvement is to do away with the thumb-projection :vof my Wrench already patented, and substitute un oblong plate, F, as shown in figs. 1, 2, and .3, (and hereafter to be described,) for the purpose of so connecting the ratchet-block S with the lever B aus to enable any one u sin'g the wrench to 'disengage very easily the ratchetfblock S with ratchet-lever A by opening the levers A an d B, as shown by red lines in Iig. 2, for the purpose of altering the space M, iig. 1. The oblong plate F is pivoted with a slot, z', on the one end, whichis connected withllever B, and 'is held loosely, by means of screws e e, to the lever B and ratchet-block S, as shown in figs. 1 and 2. The slotz' is for the purpose of giving more play to the lever or handle B. I further improve my wrench by adding a spring, E, shown in iig. 2, to the back part of my wrench, made fast at one end by a screw, 1t, on back part 0f block D, the other end of spring E resting on top of ratchet-block S, for the purpose of assisting in disengaging the ratchet-block S with the ratchet-lever A, 'as shown in g. 2.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
