J. B. WILLIAMSON.
CONDIMENT HOLDER.
(Application filed. Jan. 27, 1900,)
(No Model.)
WITNESSES JNVENTOR Altarney 'N'ITED STATES CONDIMENT HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 662,482, dated November 27, 1900. Application filed January 27, 1900. Serial No. 3,008. (No modeL.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN B. WILLIAMSON, a resident of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Condiment-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in condiment-holders, one object of the invention being to provide a condiment-holder with two compartments for different relishes adapted to be separately discharged.
A further object is to provide a condimentholder having two compartments therein for different relishes and means for closing one or the other of said compartments.
With these objects in View the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangement-s of parts, as Will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2 is a View showing the parts ready for assembling, and Fig. 3 is a view in transverse section.
A A represent two receptacles of general cylindrical shape contracted at their upper ends, as shown at 1, open at their top, and provided with perforated lids or covers 2 2. The adjacent faces of said receptacles are flattened, and each receptacle is provided in its flattened face with a socket 3 and a projection at side by side, the socket 3 in one receptacle adapted to receive the projection in the other receptacle, and vice versa, to prevent any pivotal or transverse movement of said receptacles when connected together by a band 5, which is passed around both of said receptacles and disposed between parallel flanges 6 on each receptacle. The band 5 is made, preferably, of metal and is bent to conform to the shapeof the receptacles,as clearly shown in Fig. 3. Each adjacent flat face is provided with a transverse recess 6 for the reception of an arbor 7 and with a notch S centrally in each recess 6 for the reception of an enlargement 9 on said arbor. The arbor 6 is composed, preferably, of Wire and forms an integral part of a leverlO, bent over at its upper end and on which a sleeve llis mounted, and a plate 12 is secured to said sleeve. The plate 12 is of approximately the size of the caps or covers 2 and is adapted to be moved to close the perforations in one or the other of said caps, and one or both of said receptacles is or are provided at its or their adjacent sides with an enlargement 13, extending upward to a point in alinement with the caps or covers to guide the plate 13 from one cap to the other.
The operation of my improvements is as follows: When it is desired to sprinkle one relish, it is simply necessary to move the lever 10 to one side to throw the plate 12 over as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A condiment-holder comprising two receptacles, perforated lids or covers for said receptacles, a lever having a portion pivoted between and supported by said receptacles and a plate carried by said lever and adapted to be moved to cover one or the other of said perforated lids or covers.
2. A condiment-holder comprising two receptacles secured together, perforated lids or covers on said receptacles, a lever having a horizontal portion pivotally mounted between and supported by the receptacles, and a plate carried by said lever and adapted to close one or the other of said perforated lids or covers,
3. A condiment-holder comprising two receptacles secured together, a perforated lid or cover for each receptacle, a lever pivotally supported at one end between said receptacles, a plate approximately the size of one lid or cover and a sleeve on said plate pivotally mounted on the lever and a guide between said receptacles for guiding the plate 'from one lid or cover to the other.
holder comprising two united receptacles having flat abutting faces, said faces having transverse grooves or recesses, a lever mounted in said grooves, a cover for the receptacles loosely attached to said lever and means for preventing displacement of said lever.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
.. JOHN B. WILLIAMSON.
