UNITED STATES PATENT O IC CHARLES H. LIND, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO ANDREW MCOARTY, ALBERT HOEFFER, AND ADAM O. MCDOWELL, OF SAMEPLACE.
DENTAL CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 656,556, dated August 21 1900. Application filed April 13, 1900; Serial No. 12,672. fNo model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. LIND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton,
in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Dental Cabinets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet, 1
' and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings. t p r In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the lower or base section, whichis preferably of the-form shown and forms the supporter foundation for the cabinet proper.
Upon the base 1 is mounted the cabinetsection 2, which is formed of a size and shape to correspond substantiallywith the size and.
shape of the base l, reference beinghad to neatness in appearance and in the arrangement of the diiferent parts belonging to'said section 2.
Upon the top of the center section 2 is located the central cabinet-section 3,which may be substantially of the form shown and is provided with the diiferent parts hereinafter described.
Upon the top of the section 5 is located the upper section 4, which section is substantially of the form shown,or it it may be of any other desired form, reference being had to giving the cabinet proper a finished appearance.
In the manufacture of the cabinet the base 1 and various sections may be made separate and connected in any convenient and wellknown manner, or the entire cabinet, so far as the base and the sections 2, 3, and are concerned, may be made of a single structure, it being understood, of course, that if made of a single structure said section and base are to be properly framed or otherwise permanently connected together.
The lower cabinet-section 2 is provided with a series of drawers 5, preferably arranged as shown in Fig. 2', and, as shown, the upper drawer 6 is formed of such a length that it will fill the space between the outer side of the section 2 and the inner edge of the face or panel 7 of the pivoted segment 8 at a time when the segment 8'is brought into the position illustrated in Fig. 1.
Beneath the right-hand drawer next below the upper drawer 6 is located a chamber or receptacle 9, which chamber or receptacle is closed by means of a door, such as 10; but it will be understood that the drawers herein described may be differently located Without departing from the nature of my invention; but I prefer to arrange the drawer and the receptacle and chamber as shown in Fig. 2.
The top or upper portion of the section 2 is provided with the sliding leaf 11, which is arranged so as to be extended for any purpose, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3, and for the purpose of limiting the outward. movement ofsaid leaf its under side is provided with the stop-pin 12, which stop-pinstrikes against the bar 13, as illustrated in Fig. 3, said bar being connected in any convenient and wellknown manner, or, if desired, stops may be located upon the inner sides of the side members of the section 2.
To the right-hand end of the lower section 2 is pivotally connected the segment 8 by means of the section l l and suitable hinges 15, said section 14 being securely attached to the panel 7. It will be understood that the segment 8 may be provided with any desired number of hooks, such as 16 or their equivalents, which are for the purpose of temporarily holding the various kinds of tools, the outer face of the segment 8 being so located and adjusted that when it is turned upon its as 18, said drawers being slidably connected to the frame or casing 1 1 For the purpose of limiting the movement of the frame or casing 17 the stop 18 is provided, which stop is connected to the bottom or under side of the frame or casing 17, said stop being extended through the elongated slot 19.
It will be understood that when the frame or casing 17 is moved back and forth the series of drawers will be moved in unison with the frame or casing, by which arrangement all of the drawers contained in the frame or casing will move backward or forward, and when moved backward to the extreme limit the frame or casing, together with the drawer slidably connected thereto, are brought into such a position that the roll-cover 20 can be brought over the front faces of the drawers contained in the frame or casing, said cover being in the position illustrated in Fig. 1 when it is desired to close the front portion of the section 3, Within which are located the drawers l8 and their sliding frame or casing.
To one side of the chamber within which the sliding frame or casing and the drawers are located is located the chamber or receptacle 21, which chamber or receptacle is provided with the door 22. The bottom or lower portion of the receptacle 21 is provided with the sliding drawer 23, which drawer supports and holds the tray-stand 24, said tray-stand being formed of such a size that it Will enter the chamber or receptacle 21.
The tray 25 is preferably formed of wire, and is so formed for the purpose of providing a tray that will hold various kinds of tools and at the same time provide a means for drying the same after they have been rinsed or washed.
The top or upper section 4 may be of the form shown in the drawings, or it maybe of any other desired form, reference being had to convenience and the various uses to which a dental cabinet is to be put.
In the drawings, I have illustrated the segment 8, provided with a convexed outer surface or face. This construction is the most desirable; but it will be'understood that the surface may not be a true convex one and yet the same object accomplished, the main purpose being to provide a rotating part, to which rotating part various tools are to be temporarily attached, so that they may be brought into position for use and afterward brought into a concealed or closed position. The pivoted segment 8 is intended more particularly fora tool-rack, which rack is to carry such tools as may be especiallyinconvenient to place in drawers; but itwill be understood that any kind of tools may be connected to the segment or rack 8.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of a base, a section provided with a series of drawers, a pivoted tool-holding section located at one side of the series of drawers, said tool-holding section provided with a conveXed face, a section located above the section having the drawers and the pivoted tool-holding section, a sliding case or housing, and independently-slid ing drawers located therein, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a dental cabinet the'combination of a series of sections one located above the other, the lower section provided-with a sliding leaf located at its upper end, a slidable frame or housing, and independently-sliding drawers, and a roll-cover located as described, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a dental cabinet a series of sections mounted upon a base and located one above the other, the lower section provided with a pivoted tool-rack located at one side of the section, a sliding leaf located at one side of thepivoted tool-rack and drawers located in the section provided with the leaf, a section located above the section provided with the leaf, a sliding frame carrying a nest or set of independently-slidable drawers, said slidable drawers movable with the housing and a flexible cover, all arranged, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
4. In a dental cabinet the combination of a series of sections, one of said sections provided with a pivoted tool-rack havinga convexed face, another of the cabinet-sections provided with a slidable housing and the slidable housing provided with drawers, and the drawers slidable independently one of the other and independent of the housing carrying said drawers, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses. T
CHARLES H. LIND.
