JAMES HALL, OF MONROE TOOWNSHIP, NEW YORK.
' Letters Patent No. 65,565, dated June 11, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT vIN MACHINE FOR MAKING GORDAGE.
T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: y
Be it known that l, JAMES HALL, of the township of Monroe, in the county of Orange, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Machinery for Making FishLines, Netting, and
other Corduge; and-I hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are lettered to correspond with and form a part of the specification.
To enable those skilled in the art of cord or rope-making toV construct and use my invention, I will describe it as follows: v
A is a stationary wooden framework, provided with a drum, AD, which is operated by the main belt R by any suitable pow-er. The drum D operates the horizontal shafts K and N and' spindles 1 2 3 by means of the belts P P P' and cords m m m. T is a reciprocating truck upon the ways W W, and is operated by the endless rope or belt which passes over the concave pulley N on shaft N, and through the pulley-block O. This endless belt or rope is fastened to the bottom of the truck T, hence must carry it 'backwards and forwards upon the ways when operated by the shaft N. This truck is furnished with two rollers E E', placed one upon the other,
and operated by.means of the belt'B passing o'ver the top roller E and around the axle u, of 'the truck T. The.
rollers E and E' 'regulate the tension of the cords e c c as they are fed from' thespools to the spindles 1 2 3 by the backward movement ofthe truck produced by the cross-belt P at the back end of the frame A.
Hence' all the working parts of the abovedescribed apparatus are simultaneous in their movements, produced by the revolutions of the drum D, by which means a more uniform and better article of cordage is produced. By the above-'described arrangement I amenabled to attach any number of threads or partially twisted small cords Y c c to the spindledlook or hook 1 '2 3; or the threads c c c from the diferent .spools may be secured to a single spindle-hook, 2, thereby twisted into a rope or large cord,
i Y. i Claim.
Therefore, what Iclaim as new and useful, and what I wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, isy i The arrangement of4 the spindles 1 2 3, drum D, truck T, ways W W, and rollers E E', with the endless rope or b elt B, all operating togetheriin the manner and for the purpose set forth. v
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name in the presence of two witnesses.
y JAMES HALL.
