(No Model.)
INVENTOH W/ TNE SSE S A TTOHNEB UNITED STATES OSCAR KORN, OF NEW YORK, 'N. Y.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.
652,786, dated July 3, 1 e00.
Applicationfiled J 11110 16, 1899. Serial No. 720,611. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OSCAR KORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to toys; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is designed to amuse children and which comprises apop-gun of novel construction and consisting of a barrel provided with a detached and movablepistonplug, an end plug having a flexible connection with said barrel, and a plunger-rod by means of which the piston-plug maybe moved from one end of the barrel to the other, the plunger-rod being shorter than the barrel, so that the piston-plug cannot in the operation of the device be forced out of the barrel.
The inventionis fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is aside elevation of my improved pop-gun, the barrel, end plug, and pistonplug being shown in position rel being shown in section; and Fig. 2, a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the ferent position.
In the drawings forming fication, the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference in each of the views, and in the practice of my invention I provide a barrel 5, which may be of any desired length and composed of any desired material and in which is mounted or placed a piston-plug 6, which is composed of cork or any preferred material and which the barrel 5. I also provide an end plug 7, which is composed of cork or anyother suitable material and whichis slightly conical in form and adapted to be inserted into either end of the barrel, and said end plug 7 is con-' nected with the barrel by a cord be composed of elastic or any other suitable material. The cord 8 is preferably tied around the middle portion of the barrel, as shown at 9, and is secured to the end plug 7 by a staple 10 or in. any suitable manner. I
and said bar parts in a dif-- part of this speci- I closely fits the interior of v 8, which may 'barrel and provided at also provide a plunger-rod 11, having a handle 12, and said plunger-rod is adapted to be forced into the barrel from eitherend thereof.
In practice or in the operation of the device the piston-plug 6 is forced by the pl ungerrod into one end ofthe barrel, as shown in Fig. 2. The plug 7 is then inserted and pressed tightly into the opposite end. The plunger-rod 11 is then inserted into the end adjacent to which the piston-plug 6 is located, as shown in Fig. 1, and the said piston-plug is then forced quickly through the barrel by the plunger-rod. This operation forces out the end plug 7 and causes a loud report similar to that of other devices of this class, the aizi in the barrel operating to produce this resu t.
The cord 8 may be of any desired length, and the end plug 7 remains connected therewith, and the above-described operation may be repeated as often as desired.
It will be observed that the plunger-rod 11 is of such length that when forced entirely into the-barrel from one end it will not force thev piston-plug 6 out of the other end, and said piston-plug is always in position for use, and the end plug 7 is placed alternately in the opposite ends of the barrel and the plunger-rod ll-jcorrespondingly alternately used from either en This device is. simple in construction and. also inexpensiveand well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 1. A device of the class described, comprisinga barrel, an independent movable pistonplug which operates within said barreland in the operation of the therefrom, independent means for operating said piston-plug, and an independent end plug which in the operation of said device is inserted alternately into the ends of said bar rel, substantially as shown and described.
2. A device of the class described, compris,
device is not removed ing a barrel, a plunger-rod shorter than said one end witha handle,
too
by which the extent of insertion of said p'lu-na" ger-rod into said barrel is limited, a movable independent piston-plug which operates within said barrel and the path of motion of which is shorter than said barrel, and an independence of the subscribing witnesses, this 13th ent end plug which in the operation of said day of June, 1899. I
device is inserted alternately in the ends of said barrel, substantially as shown and de- OSCAR KORN' 5 scribed. Witnesses:
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as F. A. STEWART,
myinvention I have signed my name, in pres- V. M. VOSLER.
