JOSEPH BRUCKER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y. f
GAEE arnana'rns.
Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented Jan. 14,1908.
Application filed August 22. 1907- Serial No- 889.614.
To all *uihom 'it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, JOSEPH BRUCKER,. a.
citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in
the county and State of ew York, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Game Apparatus, of which t e following is a full, clear, and exact specification. My invention relates to improvements in toys, and the same has for its object, more particularly, to provide a simple, inex enslve and novel form of dart-or arrow, an means for ro'ecting the same.
urt er my invention consists in the novel details of construction, and in the combination, connection and arrangement arts hereinafter more fully described, d then pointed out in the claims. In the accompanying drawings formmg part of this specification wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 is a sideview showing the apparatus in the hands of the user with the arrow about ready to be projected; Fig. 2 is a side view of the pro ecting device; Fig. 3 is a face view of the arrow; Fig. 4 is an enlargeddetail side view showing a portion of the arrow shaft, and the means for attaching the arrow to the rojecting device, and Fig. 5 is a face view of the parts seen in side. view at Fi 4. ln said drawings I have shown a complete apparatus comprising a projecting device 10 consisting of a rod 11 made of reed, or any other suitable resilient material, and a flexible member or cord 12 secured at one end 'to said rod 10, and provided at its other end with a block 13 which is fastened at its middle to the end of said flexible member or cord 12.
14 designates an arrow or dart which may be made of wood or other material and comprises a shaft 15 provided at one end with an enlarged portion or head 16, tapermg in o posite dlrections, and at its other end sai shaft isprovided with a flattened portionor feather 17 which may be made independently thereof and secured thereto, or made as an integral part of said shaft.
18 denotes a recess or notch provided in the side of the shaft 15 which is arranged transversely thereof at about the point of balance of the arrow. 1
The 0 ration of the apparatus is as follows: order to project the arrow 14 the end of the rod 11 is gras forms, and still embod above set forth, and tli jecting hand, and the arrow held 1n the other intermediate the thumb and forefinger. The end of the flexible member or 'jecting device is then adjusted in the notch 18 in the shaft 15 of the arrow, with the block 13 restin lengthwise against the underside of said shaft 15, and the end of the flexible member or cord 13 held in osition in the notch 18-by the thumb o the hand holding said arrow. The rod 11 is then slightly flexed and the cord 12 thereby drawn taut whereupon the arrow is permitted to slip through the hand sufficiently to permit the user to grasp the tail 17 of the arrow. Hereupon the rod 11 is further flexed to the pro er extent, and the hold of ped firmly in one cord 1.2 of the prothe arrow sudden y released thereby causing the same to be projected.
It will of course be obvious that the arrow can be made in a large variet of she es and the eatures ereinor tail portion of the arrow is made flat the same may, be made of any desired outline or shape and colored or ornamented as desirec Having thus described my said invention what I claim and desire to secure'by Letters Patent is 1. A ame apparatus comprising a projectin evice consistin of a resihent rod, a fiex1 lesection secured at one end to said rod, a block secured to said flexible section at its other .end, and a shaft having means arranged. thereon intermediate its ends adapted to receive the free end of said fiexi ble section to hold said block against said shaft and said shaft attached to said flexible section when said resilient rod is flexed, substantially as specified.
2. A ame apparatus comprising a projectin evice consisting of a resilient rod, a cor secured thereto at one end, a block secured to said cord at its other end, and an 0 arrow having-a transverse recess therein intermediate its head and feather adapted to receive the free end of said cord and hold said arrow attached to said cord under ten-- s on of said resilient rod, substantially as 5 specified.
3. A ame apparatus comprising a proevice conslsting of a resillent rod,
a cor secured thereto at one end, a block secured to said cord at its other end, and an 0 at when the feather arrow having an enlarged head at one end, Signed at the city of New York, in the a flattened, tapered feather at its other end, county and State of New York, this sevenand a transverse recess arranged at about teenth day of August, 1907.
the point of balance of said arrow ada ted JOSEPH BRUCKER. to receive the free end of said cord and old Witnesses: i
said arrow-attached thereto under tension CONRAD A. DIETERIOH,
of said resilient rod, substantially as specified. LOUIS B. HABBROUOK.
