The main object of our invention is to provide a manual control member to be used in the hand for manipulating and guiding a rolling member.

Another object of our invention is to have a rolling member in the form of a small hoop or ring, or even a disk or wheel.

A further object of the invention is to have a manually held control and guide member for the ring or disk which is provided with a handle and intermediate its ends with a rest slot or seat for the ring and at the far end with a laterally extending arm for guiding the ring by contact therewith.

An ancillary object of the invention is to provide an elongated playing stick forming the ring guiding member with a longitudinally disposed open guide slot for the ring extending from the rest slot to the far end of the stick.

An object of this invention is also to have a ring or disk provided in one form with serrations or traction teeth upon its periphery and corresponding tractio-n teeth in the guide slot on the playing stick.

It is even an object to have the playing stick provided with laterally extending arms means which may take the form of a square hook and in another form a pair of oppositely extending curved arms.

Other objects and advantages of our invention will appear in detail as the specification proceeds.

In order to facilitate clear comprehension of this invention for a proper appreciation of the salient features thereof, the invention is illustrated on the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, and in which:

FIGURE l is a perspective view of a hoop or ring together with a playing stick forming a guide member therefor which embody our invention in a practical form and display its features;

FIGURE 2 is another perspective View of the playing stick as seen from the rear in FIGURE l;

FIGURE 3 is a side elevation of the playing stick as seen from the left in FIGURE 2;

FIGURE 4 is a cross section of the same stick as taken on line 4-4 in FIGURE 1;

FIGURE 5 is a partial perspective view of a moditication in a section indicated at line 5-5 in FIGURE l;

FIGURE 6 is a perspective view of a modification of the playing stick of FIGURES 1, 2 and 3; while FIGURE 7 is a side elevation of a modification of the ring or hoop shown in FIGURES l, 5 and 6.

Throughout the views, the same reference numerals indicate the same or like parts and features.

In games, pastimes and toys, a hoop and stick are favorites, and new forms of the same are interesting to young people everywhere, especially when new features are included in either or both members of such a cornbination. The invention includes a special ring or hoop and a control stick of special character by which to impart novel movements and control of the ring mentioned, as will now be set forth in detail in the following, due reference being had to the drawing already mentioned.

Hence, in the practice of our invention, a ring or hoop 3, made of wood, metal or plastic material is made in a convenient size for play, measuring anywhere from 6 to 10 inches in diameter, sometimes 7 inches as an average size. Then a playing stick, generally indicated at 9 primarily includes a knurled handle llt), and intermediate slotted portion ll having a longitudinal slot l2 opening through the stick to a length that is short of the diameter of hoop 8 which is indicated at il in broken lines in FIGURE 1, representing a rest position for the hoop. Upon the rest of the stick at I3, the stick has a guiding groove 14 joining slot l2 at its upper end and extending to the lower end of stick section 13. Upon this lower end, a pair of oppositely extending curved arms form a wide sweeping foot l5 in which the two portions lo and 17 join each other smoothly above groove ld to provide a concavely curved Contact portion for guiding ring S when it has been set in motion.

Assuming that the stick is held in the hand by handle lil and ring or hoop 3 is seated initially in slot 12 as indicated at S and the stick held in the downwardly inclined position shown in FIGURE l, it is but the flick of the thumb beneath the ring that is required to release the ring from slot i2 and start the ring rolling down groove l2 and off the stick as seen in this ligure. The ring may then be contacted by contact member or foot l5 to roll it in desired direction and manner. As shown in FIGURE 5, the ring 1S may have traction or operating teeth l@ thereon and the groove Ztl may have corresponding traction teeth Z1 to ensure rotation of the ring when rolling down the groove. As shown in FIGURE 7, the ring may take the form of a disk 22, or a wheel with or without hub and spokes, if desired, for the operation will be the same as already outlined.

On the other hand, the playing stick generally indicated at 23 has the knurled handle 24, the slotted intermediate section 25 with longitudinal slot 26 and lower length 27 of the stick with the groove 2d for the ring or hoop. However, at the lower end of stick 23 is fixed a square hook, generally noted at 29 includes a right angled downwardly directed portion 3d with a laterally directed relatively longer portion 3i terminating at its right end in an upwardly extending end hook portion 32. The hook as a whole serves to limit and control the ring or hoop S similarly to the use of curved stick portion l5 of FIG- URES l, 2 and 3, but extends only to the left of the player holding the stick while the slot and groove serve as in the case of stick 9 in said three views.

Manifestly, variations may be resorted to and parts and features may be modified or used without others within the scope of the appended claims.

Having now fully described our invention, we claim:

1. A rolling hoop and control stick combination cornprising a rolling member, and a control playing stick therefor comprising an elongated stati portion having a handle at an upper end and a laterally extending Contact portion upon a lower end for engaging with and controlling the rolling member when in movement, the stick having a longitudinal slot extending through the staff portion, the slot being shorter in length than the diameter of the rolling member but of a width sufficient to admit the rolling member to partly enter the slot so that a seat is provided for the rolling member, the stick having an upwardly facing longitudinal groove extending from the slot to the lower end of the staff portion.

2. A rolling hoop and control stick combination comprising a rolling member, and a control playing stick therefor comprising an elongated staff portion having a handle at an upper end and a laterally extending contact portion upon a lower end for engaging with and controlling the rolling member when in movement, the stick having a longitudinal slot extending through the staff portion, the slot being shorter in length than the diameter of the rolling member but of a width sutiicient to admit the rolling member to partly enter the slot so that a seat is provided for the rolling member, the stick having an upwardly facing longitudinal groove extending from the slot to the lower end of the statiE portion, the lower end of the playing stick being substantially a square hook with an end hook portion projecting upwards at a left side of the playing stick as viewed by a player holding the playing stick.

A rolling hoop and control stick combination cornprising a rolling member, and a control playing stick therefor comprising an elongated staif portion having a handle at an upper end and alaterally extending Contact portion upon a lower end for engaging with andcontrolling the rolling member when in movement, the stick having a longitudinalrslot extending through the staff portion, the slot being shorter in length than the diameter of the rolling member but of a width sucient to admit the rolling member to partly enter the slot so that a seat is provided for the rolling member, the stick having an upwardly facing longitudinal groove extending from the slot to the lower end of the stati portion, the contact portion upon the lower end of the playing stick extending laterally to both sides of the stick and arching forward to form a forwardly concave foot curved about an axis disposed at an inclined angle to the stick as a whole.

1. A ROLLING HOOP AND CONTROL STICK COMBINATION COMPRISING A ROLLING MEMBER, AND A CONTROL PLAYING STICK THEREFOR COMPRISING AN ELONGATED STAFF PORTION HAVING A HANDLE AT AN UPPER END AND A LATERALLY EXTENDING CONTACT PORTION UPON A LOWER END FOR ENGAGING WITH AND CONTROLLING THE ROLLING MEMBER WHEN IN MOVEMENT, THE STICK HAVING A LONGITUDINAL SLOT EXTENDING THROUGH THE STAFF PORTION, THE SLOT BEING SHORTER IN LENGTH THAN THE DIAMETER
