ARTHUR WV. KEAR, ALONZO B. VOODARD, AND FRANK II. IVALRATH, OF VELLSVILLE, NEW YORK; SAID IVOODARD ASSIGNOR TO SAID KEAR AND IVALRATII.
GARIVIENT-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 652,619, dated June 26, 1900. Application iiled December l2, 1899. Serial No. 740,075. (No model.)
To @ZZ w/wm it may con/cern:
Be it known that we, ARTHUR WV. KEAR, ALONZO B. WooDAnn, and FRANK H. WAL- RATH, citizens of the United States, residing at Vellsville, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garmen t-Supporters, of which the following is a specifica-tion.
This invention relates to garment-supporters, one object of the same being to provide a device of this kind which may be readily secured to and removed from the waist of the user and which Will serve to hold the waist of the dress down, support the skirt thereof, and prevent the twisting or turning` of both.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in connection with a device of this kind, means for holding a belt in place.
Other objects of the invention will herein-' after appear.
The invention consists ot' a strip of metal having cords or tapes attached to the opposite ends thereof, by means ofwhich the same may be secured around the waist, and a plurality of metallic clips bent around and secured to said metallic strip, the side edges of said clips being bent outwardly to form flanges and provided with notches or teeth, the teeth on the inner side projecting downwardly and those on the outer side projecting upwardly.
The invention also consists in certain features and details of construction, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this speciication, Figure lis a perspective view of the garment-holder complete with theends of the iiexible tapes cut away. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken through the center of one of the clips. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the metallic strip constituting the body of the device; and Fig. 4 is a similar view of one of the metallic clips with the ends thereof slightly spread apart, showing the same in the position it assumes before applied.
Like lei'erencemunierals indicate like parts in the different views.
The improved supporter is made up of a strip l of flexible metal, having eyes or loops 2 2 at its opposite ends, to which are secured tapes or cords 3 3, which provide means for securing the device in place. Secured to the strip l, which constitutes the body of the device, is a plurality of metallic clips 4 4, each being bent around the lower edge of the strip l and having its side edges bent outwardly to form flanges 5 5. The flanges on the inner side of the strip l are provided with downwardly-extending teeth 6 6, and the Iianges on the outer surface of the plate l are provided with upwardly-extending teeth 7 7.
In using the device the same is applied by placing the strip l around the waist at the back with the teeth 6 engaging the lower end or band of the dress-waist, said device being secured in lplace by tying the tapes or cords 3 3 together at the front. The band of the skirt is then placed on the outside of the device, so that the teeth 7 7 on the flanges 5 engage the inner surface of said band. In this way the dress-waist is held down in proper position and the skirt is supported and both are prevented from twisting or lateral movement without the use of pins or other analogous devices.
Adjacent to the center of the strip l is secured an upwardly and outwardly extending hook 8, the same serving as a belt holder or retainer. When the belt is placed around the outside of the skirt-band beneath the hook 8, the latter serves to prevent the belt from riding up or otherwise getting out of place. This hook may, however, be dispensed with, if so desired.
Having now described the invention, what is claimed as new is@ l. A garment-supporter, consisting of a band and a plurality of metal clips bent around and secured to the same, the side edges of said clips being bent outwardly to form flanges and said iianges being formed with a series of teeth, as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A garmentsupporter, consisting of a plate provided with means whereby it may be secured around the waist and having a plurality of metal clips bent around the same,
the side edges of said clips being bent out- Wardly toform Hangesand said flanges .being formed with a series of teeth, the teeth on the inner side of said plate extending downwardly and those upon the outer side of said plate extending upwardly, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set` our hands in presence of two subscribing FRANK H. WALRATH.
