N URSlNG-BOTTLE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 651,647, dated June 12, 1900.
Application filed July 14, 1899. Serial No. 723,765- (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern: ing small to receive the neck of the bottle, Be it known that I, ISABELLA M. BIRD, a the opening f permitting the out-passage of citizen of the United States, residing at Stanthe said neck, but the walls of said opening 55 ton, in the county of Hunterdon and State of preventing the out-passage of the body por- NewJersey, have invented certain new and tion of said bottle. v
useful Improvements in Nursing-Bottle Hold- The opposite end g of the body of the boters; and I do hereby declare the following to tle-holder is larger, as above indicated, than be a full, clear, and exact description of the the endf, and the opening g therein is of suf- 6o invention, such as will enable others skilled ficientsize to permitthe passage therethrough I0 in the art to which it appertains to make and ofthe entire body of the bottle. At said larger use the same, reference being had to the acend the fabric is turned inward, the inward companying drawings, and to letters of refedge being sewed, as at 9 to form a pocket eren'ce marked thereon, which form a part of g for a shirr string or tape h. The said body 65 this specification. e-is preferably formed bylaying two similarly- The objects of this invention are to hold shaped pieces of cloth upon one another and the nursing-bottle with greater security in a sewingthe opposite side edges together, seams convenient position for use by the infant as i being thus formed, which extend from end it lies in its crib or bed, to reduce the cost of to end of the body, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. 70 the device and enable the bottle to be ar- Insewingone of the seamst'linclose between ranged therein with greater convenience and the edges of the body the end of a tonguej,
ease as well as security, and to obtain other comprising a piece of textile fabric, preferadvantages and results, some of which may ably similar to that from which the body is be referred to hereinafter in connection with formed. This may be of one or more thick- 75 the description of the working parts. nesses and is sewed in place preferably by the The invention consists in the improved same line of stitching which fastens the edges 11 ursing-bottle holder andin the arrangements of the body together. The said tongue j exand combinations of parts of the same, all tends laterally out from the bodycand serves substantially as will be hereinafter set forth, as a convenient means for fastening the bot- 80 and finally embraced in the clauses of the tie-holder to the pillow by means of a safetyclaim. pin 7c, Fig. 1, or other suitable means. The
Referring to the accompanying drawings, said parts being constructed as described and in which like letters of reference indicate eorthe shirr-string being arranged in its pocket responding parts in each of the views, Figy I first thrust the bottle throughthe larger 85 ure 1 is a View showing the improved bottleopening of the body 6 until the enlargement 3 5 holder with a nursing-bottle therein attached atthe base of the neck of the bottle engages to a pillow upon which the infants head may the walls around the smaller opening. I then rest. Fig. 2 is a detail plan of the improved draw upon the shirr-string 7L and close the bottle-holder. Fig. 8is a sectional view taken larger opening, so that the bottle is held 0 at line at, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken firmly in position and cannot be drawnby 40 at line y, both section-lines being shown in the infant from the holder, even though con- Fig. 2. siderable draft be brought to bear upon the In said drawings, a indicates a pillow to nipple connected with the bottle. Thus there which the holder may be attached, and b inis no dangerof detachment of the bottle from 5 dieates the holder, adapted to receive a nursits said holder, and inasmuch as the inclosing-bottle c and hold the same firmly in poing body is of soft material it serves as a cushsition so that the infant may conveniently ion to prevent any injury by hard contact of grasp the nipple d and employ the same in the bottle with the infant. The radiation of the usual way. The said holder 1) comprises heat from the bottle is also retarded by the 100 a body 6, of suitable textile fabric or other inc-losing holder, so that the contents of the flexible material and preferably flannel. This bottle, especially in Winter, remains a longer is adapted to encircle the body of the bottle time at a suitably-high temperature to be and is open at its opposite ends, the end f betaken into the stomach of the child.
It will be understood that the bottle-holder is of a length sufficient to project beyond the bottle and permit the shirr-strings to be drawn and the end of the holder to be closed around the bottom end of the bottle to retain said bottle in place.
The material from which the bottle-holder is made is hygienic in that when soiled it can be readily washed.
For winter use I prefer to line or pad the interior of the holder to more effectually prevent radiation of heatand maintain the milk at a temperature conducing to a quick digestion.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is- 1. Theim proved nursing-bottle holder herein described, comprising a body 6, provided with an openingf, for the neck of the bottle to protrude, and said body entirely covering and inelosiug the remainder of the bottle, means for inserting and removing the bottle and means for attaching the bottle-inelosing body to a pillow or the like, substantially as set forth.
2. The herein described nursing bottle holder, having a body e, of soft non-conducting material adapted tocushion the sides of the bottle and retain its heat, said body having a permanent opening for the neck of the site end through which the bottle may be inserted, a draw-string arranged at said larger opening and adapted to close the body together below the bottom of the bottle, and a tonguej, which may be pinned to a pillow, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of July, 1895).
ISABELLA M. BIRD.
