Description
NITED STATES SUSPENDER CAST-OFF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 651,579, dated J une 12, 1900. Application filed April 6.1900. Seriitl No. 11,845. (No modal.)
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS NEUBERGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bridgeport, in the connty of Fairfield and State of Oonnecticnt, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cast-Off Snspender-Ends, of which the following is a speoification.
My invention relates to new and nSefnl im-" provements in snspender-ends, and refers especially to improved means for oonnecting the web and the buttons npon the tronsers.
It is the object of my invention to improve upon devices of the above class by providing means whereby a freer self-adj nstment of the snspender to the wearer is afforded and means for rendering a nniform strain npon the buttons; further, to provide a doublecord connection for the cast-off, whereby two engaging surfaces are prodnced instead of one, and, fnrthermore, whereby thinner cords can be employed, and, finally, to produce an end which is neat and attractive in appearance and otherwise generally desired by the trade.
With the above objeots in view my invention resides and consists in the novel construction and combination of parts shown npon the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, npon which similar characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts thronghont the several fignres, and of which Figure 1 shows a front elevation of my improved suspender-end. Fig. 2 shows a detail side elevation of the double roller-bearing cast.oi shown in Fig. 1. Figs. 3 and 4 show front and side elevations, respectively, of a slightly-modified form of roller-bearing, the same comprising a structure which is permanently attached to the 100p.
Referring in detail to the characters of reference marked npon the drawings, A indioates one end of a snspender-web, and B a bnckle by means of which the length of said web is adj nsted t0 suit the wearer in the nsnal manner.
C represents a wire 100p which is retained in the folded end of the web and to which detachabl; connected to the 100p, while in Figs. 3 and 4 it will be seen that it is fixed thereto. Tl1e cast-oi, as will be seen, comprises a casing formed of a single piece of sheet metal folded in its middle and bent togethcr, the two parts being retained in their relative positions by means of stnds E E, npon which rollers F and G are free to rotate. The longer end of the casing is provided With ears H npon either side and a retnrn end I, which latter in practice engages the 100p before referred to. The opposite end J 0]: the casing forms a spring-like tongne and operates between the ears before mentioned in snob a manner as to permit of the ready attachment or detachment of the cast-oif to the 100p C before mentioned.
In Figs. 3 and 4 it will be seen that the construction of the upper end of the casing of the cast-off differs slightly from that shown in the other figures, since it is not made detachable, but is permanently secnred to the 100p. The actnal difference of construction in this device resides simply in the swaging clown of the ends of the casing npon the 100p instead of the employment of the snap-hook construction shown in the other figures.
The stnds E are arranged one above the other, and the npper onetcontains a roller F, which is slightly larger than the one below it, thns permitting the oords t0 properlyfree themselves as they operate over said rollers, as will be obvionsly noted from Fig. 1. The cords which operate over these rollers in practice really constitnte a single length; but for convenience of description I will designate them as the upperand lower cords K and L, respectively. These cords are secnred together clown near their lower extrem- 'ity by rneans of metallic clips M and form bnttonhole-loops N, as shown.
From the above description it will be noted that the rollers as arranged permit the cords t0 freely slide to and fro throngh the casing and aliow the parts to readily adjnst themselves to the varions positions of the roller and likewise distribnte the wear substantially even npon the two cords and, furthermore, insnre a temporary retention by one should the second become weak or broken.
Having thns described my invention, what I clainn, and desire to secnre by Letters Patenta, is
In a snspender-end of the class described portions of said cords being nnit-ed to form a the combinaton with a cast-0I the same combnttonhole-loop, snbstantially as shown and prising a casing, central stnds t0 retain sad deseribed. casing together, ears bout up from the side In testimony whereof I have signed Lhs [5 5 of: one and of said casing, and a hook formed specification in the presenee of two subscribby the central portion of sa-id end, a tongue ing witnesses. formed by the opposite ond of said easing and adapted to operate in conjunction With said hook, and rollers upon the stnds of said casxo ting and armnged one above the 0Lher, eords LOUIS NEUHERGER.
Witnessos:
C. M. NEWMAN,
ndapted 110 opemte on said rolls, Lhe onter PETER DOOLAR, J1.
