SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 648,368, dated April 24, 1900.
Application filed May 8, 1899.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. TARRANT, a citizen of the United States of America, residin g at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hernia-Trusses; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. I
My invention relates to improvements in hernia-trusses, myobject being to provide a device of this class which shall be simple in construction, economical in cost, and reliable,
. durable, and efficient in use; and to these ends the invention consists of the featu res,arrangements, and combinations hereinafter de-.

Fig.8 shows thedouble-elastic-cord construction. Fig. 9is a longitudinal section showing the elastic cord and its protecting-sheath, the same being broken away in the middle. Referring first to the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, let the numeral5 designate the truss-plate, whichis provided with four openings located near each extremity to receive a corresponding number ofsliding pins 6, upon which each truss-pad 7 is mounted. To the outer extremity of each set of these pins is pressure until the parts occupy the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. When the pad is released from the inward pressure, the recoil of the elastic band returns the pad to its normal position.
' In the form of construction shown in Figs. 3, 11, and 12 the plate 5 is only provided with a single openi'ng, located near each extremity and adapted to receivea pin 6, square in cross-section, upon one extremity of which the pad is mounted.
