TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCEBN:
Be it known that I, REINHoL BOEKLEN, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, and State of New York, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Invoice and Bill Files; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation'of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of my improved invoice file.
Figure 2 isa front view of the same.
Figure 3 is a front view of a modification of the same; and
Figure 4 a vertical section of the latterv l Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several gures,
This invention relates to invoice files in which a spring-hook closes upon the usual stationary tile-hook, and both together form one general curve, nearly a halt` circle, so that after a number of invoices have been filed on it, if it is desired to refer to any particular invoice, it is readily picked from the others by movingiall those above it upon the spring-hook, and, after pressing the spring-hook off the stationary hook, withdrawing thc said 'invoice desired.. i
The nature of my improvement consists, first, in the employment of one or more slides which can be passedl over the hooks, whereby the invoices or other papers are more readily forced on or moved ,up or downr on the file-hooks, and can be forced on without placing the operators fingers directly on the invoices and thereby often soiling and tearing the same; second, they consist in arranging the spring-guide on the rear of the spring in the backboard, whereby the usual guide-box over the spring is entirely dispensed with and the construction ofv the le simplified, and whereby a durable tile is had of good appearance.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the usual backboard, to which the spring and hooks of the tile are attached, and which is made generally of wood, and shaped on its edge somewhat ornamental. B is the spring-plate of the tile, which is made of fiat sheet metal of proper strength, and to its top and bottom ends, which are shaped somewhat ornamental, are permanently secured the file-hooks. D represents the lower or stationary hook, with a point on its front end. E is the spring or upper hook, made with a cavity fitting over said point of the hook D. The lower end of this spring-plate B is secured, by means of small wood screws c c, to the hackboard A, but is bent so-that its upper portion stands oil' the said backboard A and presses the hook E on the point ot the hook D; but as soon as the upper end of the spring-plate B is pressed against the backboard A the front end of the hook E i's off the point of the hook D, therebypermitting the inserting of the invoices to be filed or pressed over the hook D. The rear endf of the hook E projects through the spring-plate B, and the backboard A is provided with a. small hole, G, to guide the spring-plate B and hook E in their motion. use an additional spring, H, on therenr of the spring-plate B, sunk in the backboard A, so that a more powerful spring is obtained without increasing the'sizc of the spring-plate B. I I represent slides which are loosely fitted on the hooks E and D, so that the same can be freely passed up or down on the same, whereby, after an invoice is placed between the hooks, it can be forced over the same and moved on it without soiling or tearing thesame. Instead of using the slides I I, a Hap, K, pivoted to the central portion of the spring-plate B, may be used, as shown in figs. 3 and 4; and in this case it may be preferred to use a cam-shaped eye on the pivoted end of the ilapK, whereby the spring-plate B can be worked so that it will stay back when the flap is placed in a certain position, and allow the hooks to remain apart or open for entering the invoices.
What Iiclairr. as my invention, and desire to secure by .Letters Patent, is-
1. The employment of one or more slides I, or flaps K, in combination with the hie-hooks, operated as and lLor the purposes substantially as herein shown.
2. The construction and arrangement of the spring-plate B and its guide F, in combination with the backboard A, opera-ted in the manner and for the purposes substantially as herein described.
REINHOLD BOEKLEN.
