TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN JACOBS, of Oneida, in the county of Knox, and in the State ofvIllinos, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Self-Adjusting Neck-Yokesfor Vehicles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of tliisspecication, A represents a neck-yoke to be used in doubleteam driving, and which may be construcredin any of the known and usual Ways. B represents a metallic plate, which isbolted to the yoke at its centre. This plate is provided with a hole at its centre, to receive a pin, a, which forms a part of or is firmly secured to a metallic-loop, C. The pin a, after being passed through the hole or opening in plate B, is headed so that it voannotdraw out again. To the outer cross-bar of the loop C, (which may be abolt'or a. screw,) the leather hold-back D, which goes over the end' of the pole, is secured. The loop C, being confined to the plate B by the pin a, is allowed to partially revolve upon its pin when the neck-yoke is in use,the ends of the-yoke bein;l allowed to rise or fall to 'accommodate it to the motion of the horses, as they travel unevenly. The plate B may be divided in two parts, the division passing through its centre opening 'so that it may be closed around the head of the pin a, when it' (the plate) is secured to the yoke. When said plate is made in one piece, the pin will have t0 be inserted in its opening andl then headed.
When this device is used the yoke can be made lighter and stronger than it eanbe with the old plan of cutting a groove around it at its @entre to hold the hold-back strap and keep it in its place. The bolts which confine the plate B in its place weaken the yoke but little, while the plate B strengthens it.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The swivel loop and plate B, or their equivalents, constructed substantially as specied, and used with a neck-yoke as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of April, 186i'.
