Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 64,065, dated April 23, 1867; antedated March 16, 1867.
. by declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2, a transverse section; and Figs. 3, 4, and 5, sections of the heating apparatus.
Similar letters of reference when they occur in the different figures represent corresponding parts of the invention.
This invention is designed as an improve ment on my patent of September 4, 1866, for a dry-house, by which improvement a better control of the heat is obtained, and the invention may also be adapted to the different purposes indicated in the name.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to de-' scribe it with reference to the drawings.
A, Fig. 1, represents the rectangular house or structure, with the doors thrown open, and a hinged section of the top F, forminga lid, raised. N represents the furnace, the mouth of which is shown in Fig. l, with ash-pan, and a vertical slide for regulating the draft. D represents a triangular revolving heater, and b a shield or covering for the furnace N, heater D, and a horizontal section of pipe or chimney K, and is secured to the floor of the structure by nails, or any suitable means. d represents ahinged section of the shield, forming a door for access to the heater, and also for regulating the amount of heat escaping from the heater D into the structure. The shield b is also provided with tongued apertures n a n, for the admission of heat into the structure when the door 'D is closed.
0, 'Fig. 1, represents a horizontal sliding panel, forming avapor-chamber in the top of the structure, of which the panel 0 is the bottom.
H is a pipe connecting between the structure above panel 0 and the chimney K. r r is a valve for opening and closing pipe H.
The relation of the furnace N, revolving triangular heater D, and chimney-K, is shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 5. The tubes 1, Fig. 3, and j, Fig. 4, serve as axles for the revolving heater, and also allow communication be tween the furnace N, through the hollow heater D and the chimney K, the aperture working on'tube i and tube j in aperture h.

The revolving triangular heater insures a better control of the heat than is obtained in any other way, the heat being radiated more forcibly in direct lines from either of the sides, and, from its tendency to rise, the heat may be thrown upward or to one side, according to the position of the highest side of the heater.
The retention of the heat in the structure is regulated by the valve 9" r, and the current of ascending heat may be diverted from one end of the structure to the other by means of the sliding panel C, which panel, being shorter than the structure, when it is slid to one end forces the current to the other in order to escape through the pipe H. The heat may also be permitted to escape suddenly by raising lid F. As a room-warming apparatus, the front doors are thrown open, and the heater turned with one side to the front, at an angle offorty-five degrees, with one of the sides upward.
The heater is also a convenient arrangement for heating smoothing-irons, and by laying thin strips of ,metal or other suitable material on the heater, to sprinkle the sulphur on, the apparatus is complete for bonnetbleaching.
