Be it kn own that I, GEORGE HERMAN TUT- TLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Syringe Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains-to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a syringe attachment, and is particularly adapted for application to a vaginal or rectal tube carried by a syringe.

The invention has for an object to provide a spraying-bulb by means of which the vagina may be thoroughly sprayed with liquid and such liquid retained therein as long as desired.

A further object is to provide an inflatable perforated bulb adaptedto be inflated by Water passing therethrough and to thus form a closure at the mouth or neck of the vagina.

Other and further objects of the invention will be hereinafter set forth in the following specification, and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claim.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is an elevation of a syringe with the spraying-bulb applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the bulb, and Fig. 3 an elevation showing the application of the bulb.

Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawings.

The letter A designates an in flatable spraying-bulb of any desired flexible material-- such, for instance, as thin rubber-although it is not essential that the bulb be elastic. This bulb may be of any preferred configuration, but is illustrated as substantially fanshaped and having at its larger end A perforations A while its opposite end is reduced in diameter to form a neck A and provided with an inlet-passage adapted to surround and communicate with an ordinary syringenozzle, such as a rectal or Vaginal tube. for insertion into the vagina. The water-pressure through the nozzle at once inflates the bulb and sprays the vagina. The expansion or inflation of the bulb closes the dischargeopening from the vagina, and thus retains the liquid therein-as, for instance, when a poulticing effect of hot water is desired.

The spraying-bulb may be used with any form of syringe or nozzle; but as illustrating a desirable form I have shown in Fig. 1 a fountain-bag B connected by a conductingtube B with a rectal or vagina tube B upon which the holdingneck A of the bulb is placed.

The action of the bulb or bag A is as fol= lows: By elevating the syringe-bag B any de gree of pressure may be secured, and after insertion of the bulb the pressure of the water inflates the bulb, so that its enlarged outer end acts to form a plug or effectual closure for the vagina. The bulb acts as a dilatable sprayer and thoroughly coats with liquid all parts of the vagina, which liquid is retained by the plugging action of the bulb. As the vaginal cavity fills a sense of fullness is felt, and then by pressing the tube inward the bulb is removed from the discharge-opening of the vagina, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and the liquid escapes around the sides of the tube.

By this invention a quantity of hot water or other liquid may be retained in the vagina for any desired length of time, thus producin g the poulticing and parboilin g effect of the Baker douche and requiring the use of only an ordinary syringe, together with this simple and inexpensive bulb attachment. The bulb-sprayer may also be used to break up adhesions in long-standing cases of uterine displacements and permits a douche to be taken when in a sitting position.

It will be obvious that changes may be made in the details of construction and configuration without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
