Description

No, 868,450. PATENTED OCT. 15, 1907.
s. L. KISTLER. NOZZLE FOR VAGINAL SYRINGES.
APPLIOATION FILED NOV. 15. I906.
SAMUEL L. KISTIJER, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
NOZZLE FOR VAGINAL SYRINGES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 15, 1907.
Application filed November 15,1906. smart. 43,629.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL L. KISTLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Nozzle for Vaginal Syringes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vaginal syringes and particularly the nozzles thereof, and the main object of the invention is to prevent the liquid which is injected into the vagina from escaping from the vagina while the syringe is in use thus rendering the douche more effective and less unpleasant by obviating the awkward and disagreeable slopping or splashing out of the liquid from the vagina, thus enabling the douche to be performed neatly and with cleanliness.
A further object is to permit the liquid to be applied against the walls of the vagina under a pressure (greater than the mere contact of the liquid) which causes the full surface of the membraneous lining to receive actual contact of the medicinal or cleansing liquid and to permit the liquid to be washed back and forth when a bulb is used thereby not only greatly promoting the medicinal or cleansing action, but also conserving the liquid.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention, and referring thereto;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, the wall of the vagina being indicated in line; the tube connection to the fountain or bulb of the syringe being shown by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a vertical, longitudinal section taken diametrically through the nozzle, only the nearest portion of the inflating tube being shown, the rest being broken away. Fig. 3 is a cross section on line X X of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective View, in detail, of the expansible dam.
The nozzle comprises a cylindrical body 1, having a front concave-convex shield 2, with a bulbous projection 3. The inner end of the body 1 has a rounded extension or tip 4. A canal 5 extends completely through the nozzle. The rounded tip 4 is formed with a series of radial slots 6 which communicate with the canal.
An expansible dam is arranged at an intermediate point of the nozzle and in the present embodiment comprises an inflatable tubular ring 7 formed preferably of soft rubber, which is seated in a concave annular groove 8 formed in the body portion 1. A hole 9 is formed in the body 1 eccentrically of the canal 5 and communicates with the groove 8, and extending therethrough is an inflating tube 10 formed preferably of soft rubber, the inner end of which joins the inflatable ring 7. The outer end of the tube 10 connects with inflating means of any desired construction, for example, bulb 11. A clamp 12 is provided on tube 10 to enable the tube 10 to be closed when the ring is inflated and thus prevent the ring 7 from collapsing.
A tube 13 is attached to the projection 3 and conveys the liquid douche from the fountain or bulb, not shown, to the canal 5. The tube 13 is not required when a bulb is used as the bulb may be attached directly to the projection 3.
14 designates the wall of the vagina.
In operation the tubular ring 7 being deflated, the nozzle is inserted in the vagina as indicated in Fig. 1, the shield 2 preventing the nozzle from being pushed in too far. The tubular ring 7 is then inflated by manipulating the bulb 11 and thus forcing fluid such as water or air through tube 10 into the ring 7, which causes the outer wall of the ring 7 to be pressed into intimate contact with the wall of the vagina as shown, and with the clamp 12 closed to prevent deflation of the ring 7 the latter forms a dam which perfectly conforms to and fits the wall of the vagina and seals the space within the vagina around the nozzle. The douche liquid is then allowed to flow through tube 13 and canal 5 into the vagina through the inner end of the canal 5 and also through slots 6, and the ring 7 prevents the liquid from escaping. If desired the liquid may, by using a bulb, be caused to surge back and forth to wash the membranes. The ring 7 will withstand the liquid being introduced under a considerable pressure and thus, aside from the advantages of neatness, the expansible dam renders possible modes of treatment or application of the douche which could hitherto not be employed.
In removing the nozzle the ring 7 should first be deflated which is accomplished by loosening clamp 12.
What I claim is:
l. A syringe nozzle comprising a body portion the tip of which has a series of long radial slots, the body portion having a canal extending completely through it with which canal the slots communicate, the body portion having an external annular groove, and an inflatable tubular ring in the groove.
2. A syringe nozzle comprising abody portion consisting of a single piece of material the tip of which has a series of radial slots, the body portion having a canal of even diameter throughout extending completely through it with which the slots communicate, the body portion having an external annular groove, an inflatable tubular ring in the groove, a tube extending from the outer end of the body portion to the tubular ring, and means for forcing fluid through the tube to the ring to inflate the same.
'3, A syringe nozzle comprising a body portion the tip of which has a series of radial slots, the body portion having a canal extending through it with which canal the slots communicate, the body portion having an external annular groove, an inflatable annular ring in the groove, a tube extending from the outer end of the body portion to the tubular ring, means for forcing fluid through the tube to the ring to inflate the same, a shield on the outer end of the body portion, and means on the shield for the attachment of a syringe tube or bulb in communication with the canal.
4. A syringe nozzle comprising a body portion the tip of which has a series of radial slots, the body portion having a canal extending through it with which canal the slots communicate, the body portion having an ex ternal annular groove, an inflatable annular ring in the groove, a tube extending from the outer end of the body portion to the tubular ring, means for forcing fluid through the tube to the ring to inflate the same, a shield on the outer end of the body portion, means on the shield for the attachment of a syringe bulb or fountain syringe tube in communication with the canal, and a clamp on said first tube for closing the tube to prevent deflation of the ring. i In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles California this 9th day of November 1906.
SAMUEL L. KISTLER.
