Description

No. 804,086. PATENTED NOV. 7, 1905.
M. J. BARCHPBLD & F. C. HUNT.
WOMB SUPPORTER.
APPLIOATION FILED 13110.2,1904.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARTIN J. BARCI-IFELD AND FREDERICK C. HUNT, OF GIRARD, OHIO.
WOMB-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. '7, 1905.
' Application filed December 2, 1904. Serial No. 235,239.
To ctZZ whom it rota/y concern:
Be it known that we, MARTIN J. BARGHFELD and FREDERICK G. HUNT, citizens of the United States, residing at Girard, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Womb-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
. This invention relates to an improved Wombsupporter, and has for its objects to provide a device of this character which shall possess greater flexibility than obtains with articles of this kind now on the market, which may be readily applied and when positioned will be securely held in place without exerting too great pressure upon the womb or upon the walls of the vagina, thus insuring the minimum of discomfort, and which may serve as a tampon for applying medicaments to the womb.
In order that the invention may be understood, we have illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device in its inflated condition, and Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view of the same.
Referring now to the drawings, it will be seen that the womb-supporter is constructed of rubber tissue tubing 1, which is coiled upon itself in a manner to form two substantially frusto-conical or cup-shaped members 3 4, respectively, united at their smaller ends. The coils of the tubing are of course suitably united, as by cement or any other preferred manner, so as to preserve the shape of the device and also to maintain the coils in their proper relation to each other. At one end of the tube 1 we provide a suitable device 2, by means of which the device as a whole may be inflated and the inflating medium be retained in the tubing. This inflating medium may be liquid or gas.
In its deflated condition the device may be readily inserted by use of a proper instrument such as well known to those skilled in the art, and when inflated the outer edges of one of the cup-shaped members 3 rest upon the anterior bone of the pelvis, and the outer end of the other cup 4: will rest upon the posterior wall of the vagina and will be securely held in position, exerting a uniform pressure upon the womb. The cup-shaped member 3 may also serve as atampon for applying medication to the womb.
Thebenefits and advantages to be derived by the use of this invention have been briefly indicated and will be at once apparent to those conversant with the requirements of a wombsupporter.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A womb-supporter comprising a tube of flexible material coiled upon itself to form two substantially frusto-conical members united at their ends of smallest diameter.
2. A Womb-supporter comprising a tube of flexible material coiled upon itself to provide two substantially frusto-conical members united at their ends of smallest diameter, and a device for permitting inflation of said tube.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
Witnesses:
JOSEPH E. HAZARD, WADE R. DEEMER.
