INVENTURE ITNIESEEEI I v d I UNITED STATES FURNACE CASE-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 637,548, dated November 21, 1899. Application filed uly 5, 1898. Serial No. 685,223. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we,W1LLIAM OLERKIN and GEORGE MAAG, citizens of the United States, residing at Akron, county of Summit, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Furnace Case-Rings, which improvernent is fully set forth in the annexed specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of the invention is to provide a band-iron case-ring for furnaces, for lightness, strength, smoothness, and economy of construction; and to this end the invention consists in a coupling for furnace-sections, consisting of a beaded or ribbed band having appendages for holding or supporting the inner-case sections in properposition, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents an ordinary furnacecase with a portion cut out, showing the inner and outer case. Fig. 2 is a perspective and sectional view showing the manner in which the various parts of a furnace-case are connected and held in position with our improved case-ring.
A and B represent sections of the outer case, and O and D represent sections of the inner case.
E is a hollow beaded case-ring, having inclined or beveled flanges E E, formed of a single piece of band-iron, around which is drawn the outer case A and B.
F is a stirrup for supporting and holding in position the inner case 0 and D.
The stirrup F is riveted to the flange E and slants inwardly and downwardly, the end pro jecting upwardly, forming a hook, as shown, within which is placed the inner case 0, the inner case D being placed on the inner side of case 0, as shown.
We claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. Asa new article of manufacture, a coup ling for furnace-sections, consisting of a single beaded or ribbed band adapted to couple the outer sections and having appendages for holding or supporting the inner-case sections in proper relation with the outer-case sections, substantially as described.
2. As an article of manufacture, a coupling for furnace-sections consisting of a single beaded or ribbed band adapted to couple the outer sections and having beveled flanges v and having appendages for holding the inner-drum sections in proper relation in the furnace, substantially as described.
