BOTTLE.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 777,4:7'7, dated December 13, 1904.
Application filed August 30, 1904;. Serial No- 2ZZ,'74=2. (No model.)
To a, whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY Gr. LORD, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to new and useful improvements in bottles; and itconsists in the construction of the body of the bottle so that the strength is greatly increased with a minimum of glass, and this is accomplished by making the body of the bottle of sections of different diameter and connecting these sections by lateral walls, as more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
lln the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bottle embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section therethrough, showing the bottle arranged in a shippingcase.
A represents the neck of the bottle, and B the body. The body in this particular construction comprises three sectionsa middle section (1 of reduced diameter and an upper and a lower section D and D of enlarged diameter. The sectionsD and C are connected by the lateral annular wall E, and the sections D and U are connected by the annular lateral wall E l have shown the bottle provided with the usual cork G, and in this case I have illustrated it as inclosed in the packing-box H, in which it is intended to fit, and when thus packed it will be observed that the enlargements D and D come in contact with the sides of the box, so in case it should be dropped upon the side the lateral walls E and F will act as strengthening-walls and prevent breakage.
By making the enlargements D and .l) at the top and bottom I also have the reduced middle portion C, which may be used for the label, (not shown,) and the projecting portions 1) and I) protect the label from damage in shipment or handling.
\Vhile I have shown the bottle as made of cylindrical form, it is obvious that it may be made hexagonal or of other cross-section Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
It is obvious that the bottle may be blown in the usual manner of blowing bottles in a sectional mold of the desired shape.
tVhat I claim as my invention is 1. As an article of manufacture, a bottle having a body comprising a middle portion, enlarged end portions, and annular lateral walls connecting the ends with the middle portion.
2. As an article of manufacture, a bottle having a body composed of sections of different diameter, and annular lateral walls connecting adjoining sections.
3. As an article of manufacture, a bottle having abody consisting of the middle portion C, the enlarged end portions 1) and l), and annular walls E and F connecting the portions D, D and C, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY G. LORD.
