BOTTLE.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, W1LLIAM POLL- GREEN, a subject of the King of 'Great Britain, residing at Bisbee, in the county of Cochise and State of Arizona, have invented certain new and .useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do hereby declarethe'following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bottle structures and more particularly toa neck and stopper structure for a bottle by means of which the fraudulent 'relling of the bottle is prevented.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of a stopper which fits snugly and firmly within a iared bottle neck forming practically an air tight seal therefor and which has associated therewith a pair of transversely extending spring pressed pins which move into engagement with Openings formed in the sides of the bottle neck for preventing removal of the seal or stopper without breaking the neck of the bottle.
With the foregoing and other objects inview this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanyinor drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the laccompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which Figure lis a central section through a bottle stopper constructed in accordance with this invention, and Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the'bottle body which has an outwardly flared neck 2 formed integrally therewith. The neck 2 is formed substantially in the shape of a frusto cone and it has its apex positioned downwardly and formed integrally withv the upper portion of the body 1 of the bottle. The neck 2 is provided with bulges 3 which are disposed diametrically opposite each other and extend outwardly from the contour of the neck 2. The bulges 3 are provided for reinforcing the neck structure 2 and they have recesses 4 formed therein and extending in- ASpecification of Lettersy Patent.

wardly :from the yinner wall of the neck 2. They openings or recesses 4 extend transversely into the Lbulges 3 as is clearly shown in Fig. '1 of the drawings. The substantially frusto-conical shaped bottleneck 2 isprovided with a bore 5 which is substantially frusto -conical shaped. The bottle Ahas the point of juncture between the body portion thereof-and the neck provided with an internal thickened portion to provide a sea-t 6, the said thickened portion having a straight bore 7 extending therethrough, and communicating with the interior ofthe bottle body 1. The seat 6 has a disk 8 of cork,
rubber or other resilient material mounted thereon :against ,which the bottom or inner end of the stopper 10 rests. The stopper or seal 10 has its upper end hermetically sealed and it has a tube 11 extending transversely therethrough substantially equiedistant of the top and bottom of the stopper or seal. The tube 11 has positioned therein a pair of rods 12 and 13, which rods have enlarged heads 14 and 15 formed upon their inner ends. The enlarged heads 14 and 15 lit snugly within the diameter of the tube 11 and an expanding spiral spring 16 is positioned intermediate their facing surfaces and bears against the inner surfaces of the heads tending to force the pin 13 outwardly at all times. The pins 12 and 13 project through the side walls of the stopper or seal 10 and are provided for seating into the recesses 4 which are formed in the bulges 3.
Ininserting the stopper or seal 10 in the mouth of the bottle neck, the pins 12 and 13 are forced inwardly, compressing the spring 16 and the stopper is inserted in the flared neck 2 so that the pins will be in alinement with the recesses 4 when they reach an elevation parallel therewith. Immediately upon the alinement of the pins with the recesses 4, the pins will spring outwardly, by the expanding of the spiral spring 16 and automatically seat themselves in the recesses4, preventing the removal of the proper pin from within the neck 2 of the bottle.
In reducing the invention to practice certainminor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
