ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF TO ALBERT B. PEIRGE, or NEW YoRK, N. Y.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. January 2, 1918. Serial No. 209,830.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP Am), a citizen of the United States, residing in the clty of New York, borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented afcertain new and useful Non-Refillable Bottle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a non-refillable bottle, and the object of the invention is a bottle of the character specified which is simple and economical to make and efficient in operation.
Speaking generally, the invention, from a structural standpoint, embodies a weighted valve, preferably of an inverted con cal shape and provided at its upper portion with spacing legs, a cooperating valve seat in the neck of the bottle, and a bottle cap for the valve seat and valve, said cap being provided with an outlet and having spacing legs depending from its top and at the lower ends of which spacing legs is a liquid baffle or barrier.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated several practical embodiments of the invention, but these constructions are to be regarded as the preferred embodiments of the invention though not necessarily the exclusive ones. Referring to the drawings,
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the neck of a bottle showing the invention applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the parts in tilted position;
Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation on line 3-3v Fig. 1.;
Fig. a is a perspective view of the valve and its spacing legs;
Fig. 5 is a slightly modified form of the invention shown in Fig. 1, the valve seat and valve cap being integral, and
Fig. 6 is a further modified form wherein the valve seat is integral with the neck or mouth of the bottle.
Referring to the drawings, and particularly to Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4, A designates the neck of a bottle, B a valve seat, D a weighted valve provided with spacing legs d, and E represents a bottle cap having an outlet e and provided with depending spacing legs 6 at the ends of which is a bafiie plate 6 It will be noted that the exterior surface of the mouth of the bottle is provided with a'groove' into which the lower thin edge or portion of the valve seat may be curled and thus secured. I
Referring to Fig. 5, A designates the neck of the bottle, B the valve seat, D the valve with its spacing legs cl, E the bottle cap formed integral with valve seat B, said cap having an outlet f, and the depending spacing legs f at the ends of which is a baffie plate 7, all of which members correspond to those previously described in connection with Figs. 1 and 2. In making thistype of constructure it is necessary to provide for the assembling therein ofvalve D. This may be accomplished by'makingthe valve seat B and cap E in two parts, i. (3., divided vertically. The valve may then be positioned between the parts, whereupon they may be united inany suitable way, depending upon the character of the material of which the parts are constructed.
Referring to Fig. 6, A designates the neck of the bottle, provided with a valve seat formed integral therewith, D the valve provided with the spacing legs (P, E the bottle cap having an outlet g and. the depending spacing legs 9 to the ends of which is secured the baffle plate 9 It will be noted that the valve is made hollow, thereby providing for the inflow of liquid thereto in the event it is attempted to refill the bottle, the thus introduced liquid serving to assist gravity in impelling the valve to a closed position on its seat. Under certain conditions, however, it is desirable to make the valve solid, thus relying entirely on the weight of the valve to effect the closing thereof.
From the foregoing description, the operation of the invention will be readily understood, but it may be briefly described as follows: The bottle having been filled as usual, and the valve D, valve seat B and cap E having been assembled in the neck of the bottle, the valve automatically positions itself tightly on the valve seat by gravity, but
when the bottle is tilted, the valve drops free from the valve seat, the limit of its movement being determined by the length of the spacing legs (Z, the liquid is free to flow from the bottle around the baffle plate 6 and through the outlet 6. If, however, it is attempted to introduce liquid into the bottle,
Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
the valve assumes its closed position on the valve seat, and, more especially if it is at tempted to introduce liquids under pressure into the bottle such as ordinary charged liquids.
It will be understood that the structure described may be metal, porcelain, glass or other suitable material, or certain parts may be made of one material, and other parts from a different material, depending on costs of material, conditions of operation, etc.
It will be understood further, that changes in details may be made in the constructions described without departing from the spirit or substance of the invention the scope of the invention being as broad as is commensurate with the appended claim.
The structure embodied in F 1 to 5 permits of the invention being employed on bottles having bottle necks as ordinarily constructed, whereas, in F 6, the valve seat is shown as forming an integral part of the bottle.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A non-refillable bottle embodying a neck provided on its exterior with an annular groove and on its interior with an inverted frusto conical seat, an inverted hollow conical valve associated with the seat and having formed therewith integral guiding arms projecting upwardly in alinement with the tapered face of the valve of which face the arms are a continuation, a cap positioned to house the valve and cover the mouth of the bottle, the lower end of which cap engages the groove" in the neck of the bottle to sup- .portthe cap in position and the top of which cap is provided with a discharge opening, and a battle plate positioned within the cap, above the valve, and spaced from the dis charge opening by arms formed integral with the baflie plate and secured to the top of the cap around the discharge opening.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specificatlon.
PHILIP ALO.
