Be it known that 1, CHARLES STODDLJimof Hancock, Delaware county,.New York have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sleigh-Runners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description'thereof, which will enable others slcilled in theart tomake and ties the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. 7 1

Similar letters of referenceiindicate correspondingpartsr My invention has for its object to so improve the construction of sleigh-runners that the shoe may be held firmly and securely in place, even should itbecome broken'while in use and it consists in forming the runner in two parts, with 'a' dove-tailed. groove formed in and be twe'ehfthem, and'in forming the shoe with a central projecting dove-tailed flange fitting-into the dove-tailed'groove in the runner, the whole being constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described. 7 I i A and B are the partsof the runner, which are 'made with angular longitudinal notches or grooves upon their inner sides, which, when the said partsA and B: are put --togethe'r, form a do'vo-tailed groove in the face of the runner, as shown in figs. 2 and 3. G is the shoe, which is made *with a dove-tailed flange, 0, formed upon the centre of. its upper side, which fits into the dove-tailed groove formed in the parts A and B of the runner. The parts A and B of the runner, and the shoe C, are all secured to each other by bolts, D, and nuts, E1

The bolts D-pass through holes in the parts A and'B, and through holes'or notches in theflange c, as shown in the drawings: The flange 0! need not extend quite to'the rear end of the shoe C, so as to leave a space for the rear end of, the parts A and B to descend in the rear of said flange in the form of a cap for the purpose of 1 still further securing the said shoe. The shoe) may be made in one piece or in section, as may be desired, but I prefer to make it in one piece, as producing vless friction in passing over the road,

I claim as new, and desire to. secure by Letters Patent- L Forming the sleigh-rnnner in two parts, A and B, with a dove them, substantially as herein shown and described, and for thepurpose set forth.

2. Forming the shoe 0 with a" central projecting dove-tailed flange, a, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
