Description

No. 633,0!3. Patented Sept. 12, I899.
J. P. KUOY.
BLIND SLAT ROD.
(Application filed Mar. 16, 1899.) (No Model.)
WITNESSES: INVENTOR fez co BY ATTORNEYS UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB l. KOOY, OF NE\V YORK, N. Y.
BLlND-SLAT ROD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 633,013, dated September 12, 1899.
Application filed March 16,1899. Serial No. 709,334. 1N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, JACOB I. KOOY, acitizen of the United States, residing at New York, (Brooklyn) in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Blind-Slat Rods, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide new and improved means for connecting blind-slats with a slat-operating rod, whereby the parts can be readily assembled in correct position and permanentlyconnected together. This object is accomplished in the manner and by the means hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a blind with rod. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section along 00, Fig. 1.
The blind-slat rod 1 is shown with staples 2 fixed or permanently secured thereto. The flat plates 3, engaging the slats 4, have staples 3 at their centers which are permanently engaged or linked to the rod-staples 2. The fiat plates 3 are made to extend orbranch in opposite directions from their staples 3 and are provided near their end portions with eyes or perforations, so that bybrads, screws, or other suitable fastenings 7 the flat plates 3 can be respectively attached to the edges of the slats centrally between their pivoted ends.
The staples 2 are suitably spaced on rod 1 to properly engage the slats 4. The top of rod 1 is provided with a bow or clamping spring 5, so that when the rod is lifted and the slats or blinds a closed the top of the rod, coming to rest in recess 6 of the shutter-frame 8, is held in such recess by the spring pressing against the side thereof, thus preventing accidental opening or dropping of the slats.
The rod 1 can be made of suitable material and may be painted to correspond with the blinds or slats.
A convenient way of forming the rod 1 is to cover a core or filling of wood or the like with metal or suitable material, leaving a side of the rod trough orgutter shaped. Soldering 9 can be run into this gutter or channel and the staples 2 fixed or permanently secured to such rod by the solder 9.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with the blind-slats, of the flat plates attached to the slats centrally between the ends thereof and provided at their centers with staples, a metal-surfaced slat-operating rod, and staples soldered to the metal surface of said rod and engaged with the center staples of the fiat plates, substantially as described.
2. A rod having a trough-shaped side, soldering in said trough, staples fixed or perma nently secured to the rod by said solder, and slat-engaging pieces having staples permanently engaged or linked to the rod-staples substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JACOB I. KOOY.
