Description

@citen gisten @anni @fitta L W. A. 1c. OAKS, for READING, PENNSYLVANA, AssieNos lTo HARBSTER,
BROTHERS AND COMPANY, or SAME Innen.r
Letters Patent No. 7 4,412, dated .February 11, 186.8.
dte'dgehule, referat in in time Eaters prima ant mutageni tf the ma.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, W. A. C; OAKS, of Reading, the county of Berks, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window-Shade Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following `is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, making a portion of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a shade-ixture constructed according to my invention. Figure 2 is a longitudinal transverse section o 'the same. Similar lettersfof reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures. This invention relates to that variety of devices employed to retain the cords of windcwshades in position, and its object is to provide an eicient fixture for thc purpose named, which will be more simple in construction, and consequently capable of being manufactured at a much less cost-than those hitherto in use.
The invention consists in` the combination of a recessed guide-plateor frame, a tension-slide, and a fiat zigzag spring, whereby the desired object is secured. i
To enable others to understand the construction and operation of my invention, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the drawings. g i
A represents the guide-plate, which receives and holds the'other or working parts of the xture, and which lis designed to be secured to the window-frame, by screws passing through lugs a, ofappropriate form, provided upon the said gui'de-plate, as shown more fully in fig. 1. Formed in the back or rear side ,of the guide-V plate A is a longitudinal recess, 6, preferably of nearly or quite rectangular shape in its`transverse section, and which has placed in its.V innermost portion, as shown more clearly in fig; 2, a spring, c, formed of a strip of any suitable sheet metal, bent into zigzagY shape, as indicated in dotted outline in iig. 1, and which, having two fiat sides, is enabled to play within the narrow space allotted to it. Situated behind the spring just l described, and in the outer or back portion of the recess b f the guide-plate, is the tensionslide B, the main length of lwhich is of flattened form, and at the lower end of which is an inwardly-extending spur or shoulder,- b, againstv which bears the lower end of the spring c, the upper end of the said spring resting against the top a ofthe guide-plate, the said top a being cut away at its hack part to permit the slide B to extend past the same, as more plainly represented in iig. 2. The said slide is furnished, alt its upper extremity, with a hook, d, or like means, whereby the shade-cord may be attached thereto, as hereinafter further set forth, a.nd which.v extends forward over the guide-plate, .and to which the shade-cord may be attached in the usal manner, as indicated in red outline in the fig. 2,just mentioned. When the fixture is secured to the window-frame,.as hereinbefore explained, the spring c and the slide B arc-retained inproper positionby-tbe surface of such window-frame closing the back or rear side of the recess, in which the said parts are placed.' The spring c,. by pressing downward the hooked slide B, of course draws upon the 'cor-d attached, as hereinbefore mentioned, to the hook el thereof, and retains the same at the required degree of tension.
V From the small number of parts involved in the construction of the xture,and the convenience with which they may be tted together, the said fixture may be manufactured at a cost much less than-that of those hitherto devised,'without at all detracting from the eii'icient operation of the-same -when in use.
What I claim as my invention, .and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the recessed guide-plate A, the zigzag spring c,'and the slide B, substantially as and for the purpose specied.
