sAsH Lock.
(Application :filed Feb. 24, 1899.)
(No Mndel.)
UNITED STATES PATENT Genion.
ADAM ROSENKEANZ, ou ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
sAs'H-LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming 'part of Letters Patent No. 629,613, dated .my 25, 189e. Application filed February 24, 1899. Serial No. 706,689. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known-l that I, ADAM ROSENKRANZ, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county1 of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented eertain new and useful Improvements in Window-Sash Locks, of which the following is a specification, referencebeing had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in sash-fasteners.
The object of my invention is to construct a sash-fastener of this characterA with a springactuated releasing-arm, so that when it is desired to release the locking-lug from engagement with its catch to raise the window all that will be necessary will be to elevate the releasing-arm. The locking-lug is then instantaneously brought out of engagement with the catch.
My invention finally consistsl in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail ref` erence is had to the accompanyingT drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views thereof, and in whichv Figure 1 is a perspective view of my iinproved sash-fastener in position, showing in dotted lines the position of the locking-lug and releasing-arm when not in use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the releasing-arm in an inoperative position. Fig. 3 is an inverted perspective view of the locking-lug. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the releasing-arm. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the catch.
Referring to the drawings by reference-numerals, 1 indicates a portion of an outer window-sash, and 2 a portion of au inner windowsash, upon which is mounted my improved sash-fastener.
3 indicates a base or supporting-plate having a semicircular extension 4, which is provided with an upwardly-extending ange 5, formed integral therewith. This upwardlyextending ange or collar is cut away, as at 6 7 forming stops or lugs for the releasing-arm. The plate or base 3 is provided with a pair of screw-holes 8 to receive the fastening-screws 9 for securing the same in position to the sash.
The releasing-arm consists of an elongated strip of metal 10, of a suitable width', having its inner end enlarged, as at 1l, and this enlarged end is provided with an aperture 12. The outer end of the releasing-arm is somewhat enlarged, as at 13, but of less diameter than the enlarged end 11. The upper face of the releasing-arm is provided with a recess 14.
The base or plate 3 is provided with an upwardly-extending sleeve 15, which is interiorly screw-threaded and of less diameter than the aperture .12, arranged in the enlarged end of the releasingarm. This sleeve is adapted to support the releasing-arm in position bythe. insertion of the sleeve through the aperture 12.
16 indicates a notch or recess formed on the periphery of the' sleeve, which is adapted to receive the one end of the spring 17' which is wound around the sleeve, as shown, and the opposite end of this spring is inserted'or secured into the recess 14, formed in the releasing-arm.
18 indicates a disk having a downwardlyextending collar 19 formed integral therewith', which is cut away, as at 20, forming an opening or recess which registers with the recesses or stops 6 7. This downwardly-extending collar 19 operates within the upwardly-extending collar or flange 5. Formed integral with the one side of the disk 18 is the locking-lug 21, which is substantially L- shaped, as shown. This locking-lug 21 is adapted .to be secured in the catch 22, the catch 22 being suitably connected to the sash 1 by any desirable fastening means, as at 23. The disk 18 is revolubly connected to the upwardly-extending sleeve 15 by means of the screw 24.
The operation of my improved sash-fastener is as follows: Assuming that the parts are in the position as shown in Fig. 1, the releasing-arm is elevated to the recess or cutaway portion 20 of the collar 19. The action of the spring will force the releasing-arm to the position shown in dotted lines in F-ig. 1, thereby bringing the locking-lug out of engagement with the catch. (Also shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1.) The releasing-arm as it is IOO moved by the action of the spring will travel on the edge ot' the flange or collar 5 until it reaches the recess or stop 7, when it enters the same and prevents further movement of the arm. Vhen it is desired to bring the locking-lug into engagement with the catch, the releasing-arm is elevated and brought to the position as shown in Fig. l.
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y In a sash-fastener, a base or plate provided with a semicircnlar extension, an upwardlyextending flange formed integral With the said extension, a spring-actuated releasing-arm connected to the said base or plate, aconcentric disk formed with a downwardly-extending collar pivotally secured to the base or plate provided with anotch or recess, a locking-lug formed integral with the said disk, a catch adapted to be engaged by the said lockinglug when operated by the releasing-arm, and the said flange formed with a pair of notches or recesses adapted to register with the notch or recess in The collar to receive the releasingarm for limiting its movement, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ADAM ROSENKRANZ.
