Be it known that L THERCN E.PLA'11T, of N ewHaven, in the county of New Haven',' `and State of Con.. nocticut, have -invented a new improvement in Adjustable Book Support; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification', and represent a perspective view'.l f

This invention is designed for Aattachment to av chair, and so as to be adjustable to place the book in any desired position; und' to enable others to construct and use my improvement, I will-proeeed to describe the saine es illustrated in the accompanyingdrawing. i

the said socket formed on a plate, C, having grooves,` D, formed so that the socket may be turned onits attachment to the plate A, and when at the proper position secured by a setscrew, E. Through the said socketis placed a rod, F, so aste move freely upand down in the said socket, and secured at the proper .elevation by a thumb-screw, G. Upon vthe top of the rod F is formed a transverse socket, 'H,`to receive a trani-lien, I, formed on the rack J, and so that the rack may be turned to any desired inclination, and when so turn-ed secured by a thumb-screw, L.. lThus lit will be clearly seen that the rack may be turned to any desired inclination, raised to any desired elevation within the limits of therod F, and the rack brought-.nearer to or carried farther from the reader, this last being done by turning the socket B upon the plate A, so as to lincline'. the rod to orfrom 'the reader, as the case may be. The rack, the rod, and the socket ]3,`1nay either one or all be readily removed from the chair.

I do not broadly claim an adjustable book support, -as such is not new,
