Description

@niteh taire battent @Hite JOSIA'H H ll-SON, OF FREDERICK, MARYLAND. Letters Patent Ivo. 62,743, dated lfmch 12, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRUSSES.
ullrrlpbuh nfrrn tu in tlgcst ritus ninit mit mating tutt nf tlg 521mm To ALL WHOM I'r MAY CONCERN;
Be itknown that I, .TOSIMI HARRISON, et Frederick, in the conntt 0f Frederick, and State of Maryland, have invented a new and improved Truss; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, sufiicient to enable one skilled in the art to which the invention appertains to make use oi' it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, whiehforrn a part of this specification, and .in which my invention is represented by a perspective view.
'lo a light and pliable band worn around the body at the height of the inguinal hernia are attached adjustable pads, which press npnn the groin. The pads are a-lix-ed to slides, which embrace the band, and their position thereon is regulated by serew-bolts which pass through the slides and such holes in the bends as lwill cause the pads tn nceup'v the position required. No springs are necessarily used in any part.
In the drawings` A is a fiexibleband buckled round the body at the height of an inguinal hernia, which will be between the upper arch of' the iliumvand the trnchanter major. that is, at the height of the anterior processes of' the ilinm and above the brim of the pelvis. I eteem this to be much preferable to anyform et' springv around thc body. To keep the belt A from rising up, the straps C C attached thereto are carried down betweem the thighs. uniting the anterior and posterior parts 0F the belt. Their adjustment as to length is made to suit Ihn person b v means ofithe buckles. In the anterior portion of the belt, o'n cach side of the piedian line, is a row el' holes, u a. I I), by means of which the pad B is adjusted so as to press upon the right part to prevent protrnsion. The pad B is attached to the slide D by mea-ns ot' a bolt, E, which alsq passes through suchV one of the holes a or?) iu the belt as maisv bring it to the desired place, and as well as securing the pad in the required position, is also the point nf attachment for the forward end of' the Strap C. To adjust the pad to the required position the` nut of the bolt is removed, and the bolt is entered at such one of the holes a b as may secure the righi' adjustment, and is then fastened by the nut E. Where but one side is ruptured it is4 evident but one pad needbe used. I have shown the duplicate arrangement. One and the same truss can be used fo'r rupture on either the right or left, or both sides.
Having described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe arrangement. on the flexible belt A, ef the pad or pads B, adjusted by means of the slides D, bolt E, and nut E, snbstantiall)Y as described and represented.
4JOSIAH HARRISON.
