TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE T. REED, of the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvanizn have invented a new and useful improvement in Broom and Brush Heads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of my invention, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings and letters of reference marked thereon, making a part oi this specification, in which Figure 1 isa perspective view of my broom head when ready-for use.
Figure 2, a plan view of the head and holder.
Figure 3, a side elevation, showing the frame and its top with elasping ends.
Figure 4, a cross-section, showing the frame, holder, and top, as when fitted together.
Figure 5, a side elevation of the head when all its pieces are fitted together.
The nature of-my invention consists in providing a frame and holder for heads of brooms or brushes, so constructed as to enable any farmer to make easily his own brooms or brushes.
To enable others skilled in the art to make use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I make a frame, A C B D, of a rectangular form, the two lougsides being two strips of wood, A B, and the ends two metallic clasps, C D, C D, the clasping angles 0 m projecting on top of frame. Atop, T, of any suitable form, but shaped to fit tight. within the clasping angles 0 m, is made out of any suitable wood and provided with a hole, H, in which the handle H is to be inserted.
I now take some broom-corn, which I bend and insert into and so as to fill about half of the frame A B G D, (fig. 1,) maintaining it there (the corn) by a slip'of wood, a or a, (fig. 2,) the ends of which rest on a small recess or butting provided on clasps C D, as in 3 same figure. I do the same operation on the opposite side of frame A B C D. I separate both sets of broom-corn thus inserted in frame by means of middle slip C, and inserting top piece T into Clasps 0 an, and sliding it on until it covers exactly frame A B C D, my broom is thus completed; the top being held in proper place by screws set in side piece A and B. When finished the broom should be trimmed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A broom head composed of frame A B O D, strips, wooden or metallic, or a and G, and top piece T, all
-combined together in the manner and for the purpose above described and set forth.
