A vFigure 2 is o detail view of the under side of the 'upper end of one ok' the side or wingv combs. Figure 3 is detail sectional vietv'oi` the comb, token 4through the line :c x, iig. 1. Similar letters of reference indiccte'like ports.
l My invention eonsistsin attaching' to the ends ofthe body or bach of ladies dress combs two wing or side combs, as hereinafter more fully described, for the purpose of more securely holding the hnirorhecd-dress in A is the main or central comb, about ,the general form und construction of which there is nothing new.
B are the side or wing combs, Which are pivoted to the ends of the body or bock of the control comb A. The
teeth of the side comb B should be made curved, us shown in jig. l, so asto pass easily through the heir. The curve of fthe teeth of the side combs B should be suehthat 'each tooth muy be the are of c circle, the centre of which is the pivoting point of said Vlside combs, but u .slight variation from such curve in either direction will do n o particular hmm.v l'.'lhe side combs B Iare represented in the drawing as struight, and about equal in i length to the length-of the teeth of ,the main c'omb A. But the form and size of said combs are not essentiel.A
They may be made longer or shorter, es desired; "and they maybe mede sti-eight, or bent, or curved to fit the head ofthe wearer; and they. may shut over the teeth of the mein comb A, or may stuud at any desirable ongle or the style of the heed-dress to be secured inplaee. These side combs B may be simply pivoted to the ends of the body of' tne main comb or they muy have springs connected with them, to hold vthem in their places when arranged. 'When thus connected, cavities orc formed in the body of the main comb A, or in the bodies of the side combs B, or in both, fortheir reception, es shown in figs. 2 and 3. One end of the springs C is sccuredfto the pivoting screw or pin,- by menne of which the sido comb B is piroted to the mein comb A, and the other end is securely attached to theu body of the comb B. When thus constructed, screwing the pivoting screw into its place coils the spring C around the said screw, sous te give If' desired, springs of' any other form may be used, -und they may be secured in any other convenient manner. ".llh'o amount of movement of the side combs B is regulated by a stop pin attached tothe body of the mein comb und Working in o. notch in the body of the said side combs B, es shown in iig. 1. l
I claim us new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- `1. The sido or wing combs, pivoted to the ends of, the body'of the malin comb, substantially ns herein shown and described, und for the purpose set forth. v v
A 2. The ,combination of the spring C with thomain combA and. und described, and for the purpose set forth.
Theszbove spcciii :ntion of my invention signed by me this 10th day of October, 1866.
