Description

H. C. RAVENSCRAFT.
Cultivator.
No. 30,758. Patented Nov. 27, 1860.
esses= i Inventor:
AUL PHOTO-LITHO. CO. NM (GSBORNE'S PROCESS.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRISON O. RAVENSCRAFT, OF KINGWOOD, VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CULTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 30,758, dated November 27, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRISON C. RAVENs- CRAFT, of Kingwood, in the county of Preston and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cultivators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification, in the several figures of which similar characters of reference denote the same parts.
Figure 1 is plan view of my improved cultivator. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of the several parts, as hereinafter to be set forth.
To enable others skilled to make and use my cultivator, I will proceed to describe the same as follows:
In the drawings, A represents a main beam, to which is secured the inner extremities of the handles B. This beam is provided with an opener or tooth, O, braced as shown. Secured upon the outer sides of beam Aare guiderods a a and b b.
D and E represent sliding wings, each pro vided with an opener or tooth, F F. These wings have secured upon their inner surfaces eyes 0 c and d d, which overlap the guide-rods a b.
I is a cross-piece secured to beam A, and having upon its under surface, at its either ends, the eyes h h, through which pass the guide-rods z i, said rods being secured to the sliding wings, as shown.
J is an upright, to which is secured the crossbar which holds the handles in position.
m m are braces which hold the wings in position when having the position as shown in drawings.
By this peculiar arrangement of the parts the wings D and E are capable of a horizontal adjustment, having a backward or forward movement as desired, and thereby admitting of the middle tooth, (J, having a position to the front or rear of the teeth F F, which produces cffects of considerable importance.
.Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The middle portion, A, in combination with the outer sliding wings, D and E, arranged and operating as above set forth.
In testimony whereot'I have hereunto signed my name, before two subscribing witnesses, this 31st day of October, 1860.
HARRISON G. RAVENSURAFT.
