IMPROVEMENT IN DAMPERS FOR FLAT-IRON HEATERS.
@lp fitlntule refcmh' tn in flgcse Ztcttcrs 33ml mm mating gntt at flge 52mm To ALL WHOM 11 MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE RODNEY MOORE, of Lyons, in the county of Clinton, in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Heaters; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full and exact description thereof, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to apply a regulating damper to the apertures, for the products of combustion, in the fire-chamber of the flat-iron heater, for which a patent was granted to me Angust'9, 186 4, In this heater the products of combustionpass first through small openings or niches in the toy of the firechamber, into an annular chamber which surrounds it, and thence into the smoke pipe. I now apply a regulating damper irnnediniely to these openings or niches in the fire-chamber.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the fiat-iron heater, showing the location of the fire-chamber and the annular chamber about it, with the openings to which the damper is applied at the top of the fire-chamber.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the fire-chambcr with the damper applied.
A represents the firc-eha-nber; B, the grate; C, the mouth-piece, extending outward from the fire-chamber to the door of the outside casing; D the damper; E, the draw-rod, the ring or handle of which extends to the outside of the casing for convenience in manipulating the damper D; a a a, stays or guides to keep the damper in place when drawn or pushed around by the rod E as much as may be required to open or close the apertures to which the damper is applied.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the damper alone.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The application of the damper D, or its mechanical equivalent, to the firechan1hers of heaters having an annular chamber for a flue from the fire-chamber to the smoke pipe, and substantially in the manner and for the purposes herein set forth.
GEO. R. MOORE.
