AIR-TIGHT COAL-STOVE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 47,670, dated May 9, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osEPH S. TODD, of Macon City, in the, county of Macon, in the State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Air-Tight Goal-Burning Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marlc ed thereon. a
Figure 1 is an elevation in perspective of the stove, with an opening, so as to showthe position of the grate Within the same. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the stove.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct the wrought or sheet iron cylinder A with an opening and a door at a for the introduction ofcoal, with an opening at b which canbe closed by means of a slide, for the admission of air, and with an opening at 0, also for the admission of air, and an opehing at the bottom, at d, for the ash-pan c.
There should be a liningof sheet metal between the grate G and the cylinder A for the purpose of protecting the cylinder A from sulphur and other injurious components of the coal and Iconstruct the basket-shaped grate O of cast-iron, resting by means of legs on the bottom of A, and otherwise not touching A.
There will be an annular plate of cast-iron, g,
which connects closely with the sides of the grate O, and prevents the cold air which enters below at b and c from passing upward and to the stove pipe without reaching the burning coals.
, Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The combination of an air-tight sheet-iron stove with the basket-shaped grate and the horizontal cast-iron annular plate g, as and for the purposes set forth.
