Description

No. 625,396. Patented May 23, I899. W. C. HUSS.
SALES COUNTER.
(Application filed Aug. 92, 1898.)
(No Model.)
WMQQZM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM C. HUSS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
. SALES-COUNTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 625,396, dated May 23, 1899.
Application filed August 2 2, 1 8 Q 8.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM 0. firms, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sales-Counters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sales-counters, but especially to saloon or bar counters. Its object is to form the lower part of the counterbody to support a foot-rail above the floor and underneath the upper body part of the counter, so that while the foot-rail is in a convenient position to support the feet of the patrons it will not be an impediment in front of the counter nor interfere with the sweeping or scrubbing of the floor. This object I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in connection with which the invention will be fully described, and particularly pointed out in the annexed claims.
Referring to the drawings,Figure 1 is a front elevation of a part of a counter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a view in transverse vertical section of the same.
Referring in detail to the parts, A represents the upper body part of the counter, which may be of any approved design or construction. It is preferable, however, for neatness of appearance to finish the lower end of the front a and return ends, which terminate some distance above the floor, with moldingstrips a.
Underneath the body part A is a recess, preferably rectangular in cross section, formed by the boards or strips 1) h. The lower edge of the vertical strip b rests upon the upper edge of the outwardly-inclined base biwhich is preferably, in whole or in part, of marble, slate, or other material not liable to be injured in sweeping or scrubbing the floor.
Within the angular recess B are secured any suitable number of brackets O by means of screws passing through perforated lugplates 0 and a, formed integral with the brackets and projecting laterally from the brack- Serial No. 689,209. (No model.)
ets. curve forwardly and upwardly from the piece I) and terminate in perforated bosses c to receive and support the foot-rail D, which is of the usual form, the end finish of which is the customary knob or acorn 0 It will be seen that the brackets C, in addition to forming supports for the foot-rail D, also brace and support the overhanging lower part of the main body A.
I have shown my invention in what I be lieve to be its best-form; but it is obvious to those skilled in the art to which it relates, keeping in mind that its essential feature is supporting the foot-rail above the floor and in a substantially vertical alinement with the counter-front, that many mechanical varia* tions may be made without varying it. Hence I do not limit myself to the precise details shown.
What I claim is- 1. The combination of the counter having the recess formed in its base, brackets secured within said recess to support a foot-rail, and the foot-rail supported in said brackets substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of the counter-body having the rectangular recess in the lower part of its front, brackets secured within said recess to the vertical and horizontal walls thereof and projecting outwardly below the counter-front, and a foot-rail supported in the outer arms of said brackets substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination of the counter-body having a recess below it, a base forwardly inclined from the back wall of the recess, brackets secured in said recess above the base and having arms projecting forwardly and provided with perforated bosses to receive and support the foot-rail,and the foot-rail supported in said bosses substantially as shown and describeda V H WILLIAM C. HUSS. Witnesses:
