SHAVlNG-BRUSH.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 624,686, dated May 9, 1899. Application filed November 25, 1898. Serial No. 697,328. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EDWARD S. R OONEY, a citizen of the United States, residiug at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Shaving-Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the followingis afull and eXact description thereof, reference being had to the .accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the shavingbrush. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the shaving-brush, part in section. Fig. 3 is a section of the cap on line 3 3 of Fig. 5. Fig. t is a side elevation of the cap, showing slits cutin side. Fig. 5 is a plan view looking at the under side of the cap. Fig. 6 is a sectional View showing how the tongue ispressed into the soap to assist in holding the soap in the cap.

A represents a tube of metal or other suitable material to form the handle for the brush B. This brush is made, in the usual manner, of bristles attached to a head 0. The bottom of the tube or handle A is made in one solid piece with its sides, the interior of the tube being completely separated from the bristle portion. The tube or handle A is provided with a cap D, and this cap has a screw E within projecting downward from the center of the top G of cap D to within a short distance of the lower edge of the rim of the cap D. The rim of the cap D is causedto extend beyond the end of the screw E, so as to prevent the scratching of the face when the shavingstick I has been worn down to the sides of the cap D. The screw projecting down from the center of the cap is for the purpose of hold- There is also a tongue 13 in the rim of the cap D, made by cutting one or more slits part way up the rim of cap D, which assists the screw in retaining the shaving-stick I in the cap D and prevents the shaving-stick from turning and coming loose from the cap D. When the shaving-stick is first attached to the cap D, the tongue F is parallel with the sides or rim of cap D; but when the shaving-stick is placed in position solid against the top G of the cap I) the tongue F is pressed into the shavingthe tube or handle A is tapered to suit the taper of the sides of the cap D. The reason I taper the sides of the cap D is to have acap that can be placed in or taken out of the tube A easily, and when down to proper position the friction between the sides of the cap D and the tube or handle A will retain it in po= sition.

In use my shaving-brush is handled as fol lows: The cap D is removed and the shavingstick being attached to said cap is simultaneously taken out of the tube or handle A and is then used in the ordinary manner.

My shaving-brush is very convenient for the use of persons traveling, asit economizes room, is always ready for use, and can be packed with any article of clothing without soiling the same.

Having thus fully described my invention,

what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a shaving-brush, the combination of a tubular handle provided with a cap, having tapering sides to conform to the taper of the.

inside of the tube or handle, the cap having a screw within projecting downward from the center to within a short distance of the lower edge of the sides, the screw to hold the stick of soap securely to'the cap, substantially as set forth. p

2. In a shaving-brush, the combination of a tubular handle provided with a cap, having tapering sides to conform to the taper of the inside of the tube or handle, the cap having a screw within projecting downward from the center to within a short distance of the edge of the sides, a tongue in the side of the cap projectinginward to assist in holding the soap securely to the cap, substantially as set forth.
