BROOM OR BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,087, dated January 12, 1897.
Application tiled March 24, 1896. Serial No. 584,646. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CLARENCE A. IVOR- RALL,a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brooms or Brushes, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to improvements in brooms or brushes; and the object of my invention is to furnish, in connection with a broom or brush, a convenient receptacle for holding useful and necessary articles of various descriptions.

A is a broom or brush; B, the back of the same; C, a receptacle carried by the back B.
The receptacle C is shown in the drawings formed in three pieces, a stationary piece D, which may be secured by pins E, or otherwise, to the upper part or back of a broom or brush, a removable or loose piece F, and a cap Cr, which is used to hold the piece F. in place.
I-I is a nipple, one half of which is carried by the stationary part D and the other half of which is carried by the removable part F of the receptacle. vThis nipple is externally threaded, and the cap G is furnished with a corresponding.;` female thread and is adapted to be screwed down upon it.
The lower end of the removable piece F is furnished with a flange c, which is adapted to lie inside a` collar I, which surrounds `the upper end cfa broom or brush, and which is preferably formed integrally with the stationary part D of the receptacle.
b is a bead upon the lower outer end of the piece F, which is adapted to rest upon the top of the collar I.
b is a corresponding bead upon the stationary piece D, which is used to make the design harmonious.
The edge of the removable piece F, which lies against the corresponding edge of the stationary piece D, is furnished with a groove or gutter e, and its outer edge carries a bead d, which hides the joint when the receptacle is closed.
The receptacle C may be used for holding articles of any description-a bottle, soap, jewelry, rbc.
The cap G may be used to cover the neck of a bottle, as a handle for a shaving-brush, as shown in Fig. 2, or for any other purpose. When in place, it forms a convenient handle for the broom or brush.
The construction ofthe receptacle may be greatly modified from that which I have shown in my drawingswithout departing from the spirit of my invention, and the receptacle can be attached, with suitable modifications, to brushes of various shapes.
Having thus described my invention, I claiml. The combination with a broom or brush of a receptacle formed in two pieces, one of which is rigidly secured to the back of the brush and the other of which is movable, an externally-threaded nipple part of which is carried bythe rigid portion of the receptacle and the other part of which is carried by the movable portion, and a screw-cap adapted to be screwed down upon said nipple.

The combination with a broom or brush of a collar adapted to be secured to the back of the same, a side, as D, secured to said collar and forming part of a receptacle or case a removable side, as F, a flange and bead upon the lower edge of this side,a gutter and bead upon the outer edge of this side, a
threaded nipple part of which is carried by side D and part by side F, and a screw-cap, as G, adapted to be screwed down upon said nipple.
