TO ALL PERSONS TO WHOM THESE vPRESENTS SHALL COME:
Be it known that I, ALBERT M. ZABRISKIE, now or late of Bergen Point` in the county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey,v have invented a new and useful Tool or Implement for Forming Dove-'failed Grooves in the Joints of Brick-Work or Masonry; and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a side elevation. v
Figures 2 and 3 are end views; and
Figure 4 a bottom view of it. l
The object of making dove-tailed grooves in thejoints of brick-Work is to enable stucco, plaster, or cement, when spread on the surface of the masonry or wall, to enter and ll such grooves, and by them be held firmly to the wall. I am aware that masons have implements for finishing the joints of brick-Work by creasing them in concave or convex grooves, and therefore Ilay no claim to such, as they'dier very materially from my `jointgrooving implement, `,vhich may be thns explained:
v In the drawings, A denotes a bar o1' plate, flat on its lower surface, and having a rib or handle, B, projecting from its upper surface and running lengthwise thereof, and to such distance thereon as may be desirable. The front end or toe of the part A is to be rounded,- ns shown at a. From the lower surface of the said part A, a rib or blade, C, formed dovc-tailing in transverse section, and tapering at its toe or front part, as exhibited in` the drawing, is projected, it' running lengthwise through the middle of the part A. This constitutes the tool, which, when used, is to be held in the hands of a workman by its handle, the part or blade C being inserted in and pushed toe foremost, and along each of the joints of the brick-work, and in the mortar thereof while it is in a soft state. 4This will form in the mortar of the joint a groove, dove-tailed in its transverse section and widest in rear. i
I claim the said new tool or implement, made substantially as described, viz, of the tapering and doveY tailed blade C, the plate A, and the handle B, arranged substantially as specified, and to be used in manner and for the purpose as hereinbet'ore explained.
ALBERT M. ZABRISKIE.
