UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAURICE M. MURRAY, OF BAXTER, CALIFORNIA.
SAFETY-POCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 624,069, dated May 2, 1899.
Application iiled February 25, 1899. Serial No. 706,871. (No model.)
To til whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MAURICE M. MURRAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baxter, in the county of Mariposa and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Safety-Pockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a new and useful construction of safety-pocket, the object being to provide a pocket for carrying money and other valuables and which cannot be entered Without detection.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pocket Which can be used in connection with the ordinary pockets now in use.
With these objects in view the invention consists, essentially, of arranging a pocket upon the inner face of the trousers-pocket, providing the said inner pocket With a ilap, and arranging guard-straps to hold the said flap in place, said guard-straps being attached to the supplemental pocket through such opening, and in order to gain access to the said supplemental pocket the hand must be placed inside the trousers. In order to prevent the contents of the pocket workin g out through the opening or mouth, a iiap D is held in position by means of the guard-straps E, which are attached to the supplemental pocket, passing over the flap and through the pocket proper, said guard-straps being suspended from the elastic suspension-strap F, which is fastened by means of a suitable button G to the inner face of the trousers. A
strap H, seWed to the pocket proper, extends across the supplemental pocket and holds the same in place against the pocket proper. The elastic connection of the guard-straps permits one to easily raise the protecting-Hap and enter the safety-pocket Whenever desired; but it will be readily seen that it will be impossible for any one endeavoring to pick the pocket to gain access to the safety-pocket, and, furthermore, should anyone pass the hand into the pocket proper the pull upon the guardstraps will immediately Warn the person.
Itwill thus be seen that I provide an eX- ceedingly cheap and simple form of safetypocket which can be attached to any of the pockets now in use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States,.is-
l. A safety-pocket comprising a supplemental pocket arranged upon the pocket proper and having a protecting-flap, and guard-straps, substantially as shown and described.
2. A safety-pocket attached to an ordinary pocket and having the protecting-nap, the guard-straps extending over said flap, and through the pocket proper and an elastic suspension-strap connected to the guard-strap, substantially as shown and described. MAURICE M. MURRAY.
