To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FRANZ HoLTzHAUsEN,

millwright, a subject of the King of Saxony, and a resident of Nossen, Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grain-Scourcrs, of which the following is a full and clear specification.

My invention comprises the special feature and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and specifically claimed.

' In the drawings, Figure l is a cross-sectional view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a 1ongitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a side view, Fig. 4 a front View, and Fig. 5 a plan view, of a segment. Fig. 6 is a detail View of a part of the inner side of' the cylinder or drum.

In the drawings, b is a drum or cylinder supported in fixed position by suitable framework. A series of scouring-disks a are mounted on the shaft a', which passes lengthwise of the cylinder, and the inner surface of the cylinder is in close proximity to the edges of the disks.. At the points opposite the edges of the disks the cylinder is formed with zones or working faces having inclined grooves d. In the spaces between the disks the notched segments c are set separated from each other and set spirally. These segments are secured to and extend inwardly from the inner surface of the cylinder and in between the disks. They are notched, as at c', on their opposite sides.

Fig. 2 shows that the disks a may vary in width, those on the'right of the figure being of greater width than those on the left. v

In some instances pins c may be employed projecting in between the disks from the cylinder.

I claim-A The combination of the shaft, a series of scouring-disks mounted thereon, the cylindrical casing having its inner surface in close proximity to the edges of said disks, said surface being formed opposite to said disks with zones or working faces having inclined grooves d, and the separated, spirally-set, notched segments c, secured to the interior surface of the casing and projecting inwardly between said disks, substantially as described.
