Bn it known una I, Jnnnssnnnnnn, of the nay nf Pni1ndeiphin,in the sente of Pennsylvnnn, have invented a new and useful IceCutter or Planer, 'for hotel keepers, druggists, and other retailers of beverages; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction of the'same, referi ence being had to the accompanying drawings, making al part of this specification, in which- Figure` 1 is a plane vi'ew; and

The nature of my invention consistsin the arrangement and combination of an adjustable cutting-knife, a supporting block, provided with guides and incorrodible surface-plates on its upper side, 'and a tunnelor spout on'. its under side,as hereinafter described and set forth, whereby a lump of ice can be readily and quickly reduced and` discharged through the tunnel or spoutin a. pulyerized or snow-like pure condition, by simply moving the said lump of ice, byvhand, backward and forward upon the same.

In the drawings, A is the cutting-knife; B the supporting block; C the guides; D D the .incorrodible plates, and E the tunnel or spout. The knife A is arranged in a sloping position in a mortise, b1, made across and. through the block B, like the throat of a plane, and is adjusts-bly secured thereinby means of slots and set-screws, a', (see fig. 2.) Each side edge of the block-*B has a xed, raised portion, which is grooved longitudi nally on the inner side, and form, together, the guides C C, for the purpose o f receiving the two side edges of the'platesmD D, and affording also means for keeping the lump of ice on the block in moving the latter backward and'forward. The plates D D are made of porcelain, glass, or other suitable material, and are slipped into the grooves in the uides C C, so as tol-est firmly upon the block B, one plate on each sideV of the knife edge A, and kept securely in place by means of end-pieces, b2 62, which are adjustably secured tothe block B by means of set-screws, b3 b3, (see g. 2.) The tunnel or Vspout E is a hollow, conical portion, made of sheet zinc or tin, and is secured to the under side of the block B, with its smaller cud downward, so as to form a delivery spout, which willenter the mouth ot` a .common drinking tumbler when the latter is applied accordingly. F F are two lugs projecting horizontally from one side of the block B, whereby the whole device is intended to be fastened to ashelfmor other projection, as indicated by the faint lines, g..1. A hole for the' spout E, if made through the top of a table cr counter of a bar, will hold the device securely for use'. When secured in position, and the knifeAadjusted to cut or shave Ythe ice to the required iineness, the operator places aflump of the latter upon the cutter, and with one hand thereon, moves the ice backward and forward across the cutting edge of the knife, while with the other hand heholds the drinking tumbler close up around the tunnel'or spout E, and thus, in a moment or two, supplies the tumbl'erl with the required quantity of pulverized or snow-like ice. y

This is a devicethat has been very much needed by vhotel keepers and druggists, especially in preparing Ycooling beverages in hot weather, as it is always ready at hand, can be used with the greatest facility,'and is entirely safe and effective for the purpose.

.Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-f An ice-cutter or planer, consisting of the adjustable cutting-knife A, supporting block B, guides C C, incorrodible surface-plates D D, and the tunnelzor spout E, arranged and combined together as described,as an improved article of manufacture for the purpose specified.
